Are people making up their own high pressure hydraulic hoses and piping? If so, what's it take to tool up to do it? I'd imagine that the hose and fittings cost a good bit, but don't you also need pretty specialized crimpers, flaring equipment, and the like?

For my first hydraulic project (putting a grapple on my BX2230 loader) I took the bits and pieces I needed to connect and info on the hose lengths I needed into my local NAPA store. They had most of the fittings needed and got the rest in one day and did the make up. One thing they did to help was to NOT crimp it all up. They told me to test fit to make sure it was what I needed and then, when satisfied it was OK, bring it all back for crimping.
