Sitting at stoplights and drive thru's hurt the MPG's too. I am not sure that taking off fast hurts things that badly, it is probably better than taking off really slow.

Yes slow is not good. There is a happy medium. You want to get to 5th or 6th gear to see decent numbers but not jack rabbit to get there.

I have also watched the digital transmission temp Guage and if my memory serves me right, the torque converter won't lock until 104 degrees which takes quite a while in these colder days. That puts a hurt on things too. The F150's torque converter will lock in 3rd gear through 6th.

It is also fun to watch how the smallest of hills up and down change things. These newer vehicles go 100% lean while coasting in gear using no fuel which is very helpful going downhill. In fact, one would hurt mileage by shifting into neutral and coasting since it wouldn't go full lean.

Odd thing about my 07 V10 was factory programming would maintain stoich 14.7:1 air fuel ratio at all times, even WOT, except it would run rich to cool the converter if needed. So taking off fast, or slow, was not much difference in mpg.

It's no wonder that the tuner I bought unleashed the beast. Letting the a/f ratio dip to 12.5:1 or so was very noticeable....along with getting rid of the torque management stuff on launch.

I have never really payed much attention to the digital trans temp gauge. I mostly watch the instant fuel meter thing.

I think it is funny that people drop it in neutral. With most EFI vehicles they do not give them fuel under decel. Porsche has some cars that go in neutral going down hills. I think it is illegal in some state to "coast."

Jeje, what gears do you have? What rpm's at 75mph with what tires?

I am starting the research and looking at getting a 2015 F150. Imagine your truck now with a possible reduction of 700 lbs and maybe even a slight power tweak.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with my mileage when I drive it civilly given what it is..If I run it hard, the mileage drops fast and I have a tendency to do that once in a while. The temptation is too great sometimes:D Why have it if you can't enjoy it once in a while. I'm sure you EB guys experience the same thing.

My dads 2011 Super Crew Eco Boost 4x4 with 3.73 gears has almost 25,000 miles on it and has averaged 18.3 mpg since new. He has only towed a few times with it around town locally and once on a longer 250 mile trip.

I have a super crew, 2wd, 5.5' bed, max tow (mickey mouse mirrors), 18" wheels, 3.73 axle. I didn't opt for the max payload which would have given me about 500 extra pounds but find my 1835 pounds to be plenty. I was afraid it would hurt the ride quality too much and didn't want to have to purchase LT tires one day. Also, I didn't like the rims with the package.

I don't think you would get any better mileage with higher rear ends until you hit 60 mph or greater and then you probably would get better. Under that, mine will just upshift sooner.

I wonder when they lighten the new model if the payload ratings will remain. I was torn between the f150 and the Ram and payload was the deciding factor. A similarly equipped Ram only had about 1200 lbs payload which wouldn't allow me to tow my 900 lb tongue weight camper and family.

I don't have rpm info and would get it for you today if it weren't for the ice we are getting. She will stay in the garage for a couple days and the Wrangler will come out and play.

I track each tank and have gotten exactly 2 less than that with similar total miles. Difference probably being that I own 4 trailers, newer drive over 35 mph to and from work, and enjoy breaking a couple tires loose more often than the tree huggers would like.

That said, I tracked all my tanks of fuel in my 4.7 liter dodge Dakota and averaged about 3 mpg less living the same lifestyle. 13.3 in a midsized less capable truck wasn't cutting it. It too was fun to drive and easier to park but not in the same league with performance.

I only avg. about 15-16 from mine. On long hwy trips I can get it up in the 18-19 range but as soon as you hit any city driving it's back down in the 14-15 mpg range.

3.55 4x4 Super Crew.
