I\'m a cold blooded murder....

Was out helping the wifey plant flowers when I felt a "tickle" on my right wrist.

Seems Mr. Tick had decided to land on me and take a part of me for his dinner. Well, I wasn't going to have any of that so I slid the little hand shovel I was using under him & carried him to a flat patio rock... I put him down and commenced to use same shovel to cut him in half /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

About 10 minutes later as I was pulling more weeds, I felt a tickle on my right wrist and low & behold, there was another tick crawling around deciding where he wanted to drill for some blood...

As I had the same shovel in my hand, I scooped HIM up and carried him to another rock and commenced with his dispatchment also.

It was a grand moment but it dawned on me just how thick these boogers must be, I mean, this is on the edge of my patio, not out in the "woods" at all.

As I was back doing more weeds in & yacking to the wife about how much I loved planting flowers /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif, I felt yet a THIRD tickle on again, the same right wrist.

Look down and there's yet another tick boogying around as he put his "bib" around his neck in great anticipation of munching on some of my saltiness....

Sigh... shovel still in hand, this time I didn't even get up to go to the patio...I had a rock nearby and OFF with his head (and 1/2 of his shoulders).

At this point I'm thinking... Geez... I found three ticks in probably less than 30 minutes on my right hand alone...that means there has GOT to be about a dozen of them crawling up my back, legs, head, hat...other... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif and I became a bit paranoid I must admit /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Looked around at rest of my clothing, looked at wifey, dogs (found one)...

That was the end of it. I found three boogers on my right wrist in less than about 30 minutes and one on one of the dogs. I thought it was pretty nice of them to only go for my right wrist instead of attacking me en mass.

As it was...we did NOT hold any dedications nor memorials for the little cretans.

Am I allowed to call ticks cretans without it being offensive?

Re: I\'m a cold blooded murder....

I have used Diazanon and now the new tri-something version liberally over the years. It takes a couple months, but it has eliminated all the bad stuff for me while living at the last three houses we owned. It finally got rid of all the scorpions too. Once the ants, ticks, etc are gone, the scorpions move on as well. I used far more than the recommended dosage for the first 3 months. If I bought a bag good for 15,000SF, then I used the whole thing on a 5500SF area and repeated every 3 weeks later. After you get the bugs under control, you can step back to normal dosage and spend about $10 per 15,000SF every 2-3 months. Make sure to hit the area next to the house hard and in flower beds where your body will be on the ground while gardening

Unfortunately, in our day and age, sure this will offend someone - will probaly cause a new group of activists - PETIT - People for Ethical Treatment of Insects and Tics

I've been having problems with them too, they seem to be dropping out of my trees since I keep the grass cut short.......I know what you mean about being paranoid too, all night I'm tossing and turning wondering if that little itch or tickle is yet another one!

Re: I\'m a cold blooded murder....

Richard,

You are complaining about three little ticks! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

That ain't noth'n...

Here in Tickville aka North Carolina we have TICKS. My dog is on Frontline which is good news. The bad news is that Frontline only works AFTER the tick has bitten the dog. Then they die. But at least they dont usually suck much blood.

We have a finished concrete floor in the house. One reason for the floor was to prevent fleas and ticks hiding in carpet. We had grooves cut in the concrete to control the cracking which worked as well as providing a design. The wife and I had long discussions on whether we should put grout in the cuts. We eventually decided to do so but we ran out of time before moving into the house so its a job left to do. Now the good thing about these cracks, which are about 1/4 inch deep and maybe that wide, is that they collect dirt.

What the heck does this have to do with ticks? I'm getting there.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The other day I was in the bedroom and I saw a tick on the floor. It was dead. Frontline did its job. Since we don't have carpet its easy to see the dead tick so I picked it up. This is near the dog's sleeping spot at night and I happened to look into one of the control cuts and I counted a good dozen dead ticks. Hmmm says I. I went to the living room where the dog has a bed and looked into the cracks finding another couple dozen ticks.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

We pulled out the vacuum, and as we thought, it easily pulled the dead ticks out of the cracks.

So what does this mean? My wife had vacuumed the floor less than a week ago. These were all of the ticks that had jumped on the dog, bit her, and then died on the floor. In less than one week.

Three ticks. Shoot. I wish I only had three ticks. If you want some more I'll be glad to mail 'em to ya! What is your address?

Re: I\'m a cold blooded murder....

Ben,

Richard did not mention chiggers. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In another couple of months we will have plenty of them as well. I will be most happy to put those in the mail as well.. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I tell the family if they are near the wood line to watch out for tiggers. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif They know what that means, ticks and chiggers. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m a cold blooded murder....

Out here in California it's considered offensive to use the word "tigger" (aka the "T" word). /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: I\'m a cold blooded murder....

Get some free running chickens and let them eat the bugs. I'm not worried about the bugs, but I do worry about your health with the excess of pesticides you're using. Please be careful it could be years before the effects show.
