I'm in Love!!

I know one good thing that is going to happen for New Holland.... They are going to get a lot of people coming in to look at the new 8 N.... I know I am planning a trip to my closest dealer as soon as they get some in.... And then while people are there it is no telling what things they might buy that they would not have if they were not there to see the new tractor.

If I was a NH dealer, I would be excited!!

That is true, sit down with the salesman to discuss price and as they start saying it is more then they wanted the salesman tells them they can get the blue version for this much less. People walk out happy and dream of better times when they can afford the Boomer 8n:)

I and most hay growers would prefer a CVT over a gear tranny for hay work.

Interesting, when I help my BIL with his hay I don't see a need for stopping, starting, speeding up. Personally it's more comfortable to keep my feet flat on the floorboard! Except when loading or moving, then a shuttle would work fine.

Maybe I'm not seeing the advantage of a cvt over a hst. Hst = more pedal, more speed, throttle at preset speed. I'm guessing CVT, the pedal is the throttle, more throttle more speed. But I would also guess there might be some sort of gearing for heavy pulling. Maybe a high low range. Or the CVT is designed to keep the engine in the power band. Besides the Maxima, closest I've gotten is a Polaris atv. I was never a big fan there either. Both my ATVs are manual gear. I like to put it in 5th and idle down the road at 25mph.

I am not saying this tractor is going to set sales records but NH really doesn't have to sell a lot of units to be profitable as the base tractor is already there. They changed the sheet metal and paint and added the CVT. The CVT is the most costly part of this tractor and that is going to find its way into the blue versions eventually.

I would tend to agree here but this sort makes my point. They make more money on the gimmicks than the base tractors. Which I tend to believe that there is more mark up on the lower end(tractor size) than the higher end. But thats JMO.

But I know this to be true in car/truck sales from a brother who worked years in sales. All the King Ranch, Lariet, etc had a lot more markup..IE profit than the other versions. Same with the PSD engine, they are what a $7500 option now? The engine has more mark up than the v8 or v10, so they love to sell the diesel. Of course they also make more on the financing to.

The idea with the CVT is you can easily adjust your ground speed to match the conditions in the hay fields. Hydros are loved in hay fields also but a hydro has the reputation of sucking power and not being good in tillage. The CVT doesn't have that reputation which is why so many people are buying large tractors with CVT's, IVT's and what ever other name they call them to put to work in the hay fields. It is a great transmission.

There is nothing wrong with gears though. Every tractor I own is geared excepte for my Cub Cadet lawn mower. However, I always find myself wishing I could go just a tad faster or slower then what the gears allow while haying or spraying.

I believe they have a winner on their hands. Heck of an idea, they will probably put the hot cake guy out of business.

Yes, I am in love!! If I can find a way to have one, I would chrome it all up and use it as my 'Going to Town' tractor.... Driving through the country and waving to all the neighbors.... Oh Yeah, I would be smilin'..... :D

I know I'm a little late to catch this, but this statement reminds me of the Minneapolis Moline UDLX Comfortractor that was built in the late 30's or thereabout. I believe MM advertised that a farmer could hose off his Comfortractor and take it into town on the weekend. It could be his "Going to Town" tractor. Kinda like this new 8N :)
