Savings can be had doing the demo work and prep as well as purchasing or at least having the fixtures decided prior to the bid.I got a quote from Wickes for £12k including materials and labour (London-based). We renovated our kitchen for £15k about 10 years ago, so, surprisingly, a bathroom half the size would cost nearly the same. DIY isn’t really an option since our bathroom needs quite a bit of work—uneven floorboards under the vinyl, leak repairs, prep work, and so on. Would it make sense to approach a local builder to see if I can get a cheaper quote? Ideally, I’d like to stay in the £5–8k range. The main advantage of going with Wickes is their 0% interest offer for 3 years, which is tempting.
Individual homeowners are often quite time consuming so I have found.
