Fascinating thread!!!

We have a tub/shower in the guest bath upstairs in our new home. Regarding tubs... one word: grandbabies. It gets used! Would be lost without it.

Wife loves her granite tops and was her #1 favorite surface to choose in building. Surprised to read the discussion on quotes being "less glass"... must be wild! We put in a 'snail shower' (walk-in) in our master bath... no glass to clean; love it.

I remodeled my son's 1922 kitchen three years ago. It was original and had no cabinets at all... just a wall mount sink. Huge job. He wanted glass paneled doors on the upper cabinet for one wall. He went to a local glass company (in the city) with dimensions to get safety glass cut... that was 2 years ago! They tried 3 times to get the proper dimensions before giving up. I went to MY local glass company "I'll get it done!" Ha! Took my guy 2 tries to get 8 pieces made! (1" short the first time) What is going on??? My son calls them all "glassholes" Lol

End of the day, when we redid the boys bathroom, that is one reason why we kept a tub.

We remembered how much the boys used it growing up, and given both boys bedrooms were upstairs, we wanted to give the possible future new family who might buy our house the same opportunity for a tub.

I like the extra bathrooms to have shower-tub combo, and the master bath to have a real shower. The separate tub is basically a place I throw my dirty clothes, but you wouldn't want to not have it, some people really like the tub.

If you had a garage, with a floor drain in the right place, adding a simple stand alone garage shower would be useful at times, after you spill the oil catch pan on yourself, or coming in covered in mud...

Mom came over today to do some birthday shopping with my daughter ,and mentioned my brother and his BIL/FIL started a small, 3 way partnership remodeling company. Told her I'd be more worried about a 3 way partnership than the work itself.

As long as we’re on the subject of bath tubs..
U know the ones they advertise on tv.. the zero lip ones that u sit in and close the door.?? And if u act now, we’ll throw in a shower head absolutely free.!!
Who in their right mind will sit in an empty tub, naked, while it fills.!!??
U can’t fill it and get in..
Can someone please explain it to me..
Thanks..

Simple, the one we have for my dad takes pretty much around 8 or so minutes to fill. Not that bad. I do know my father enjoyed it very much. Honestly, I like it more than I care to admit with the powered jet nozzles.

Drains in minutes to get out.

For a elderly person why physical limitations, it can be the cats meow to being able to take a bath.

Much easier for a shower, less chances of falling (and you can sit and shower if you'd like). That is immediate once you get in if you do want to shower instead of a bath.

No way my dad wanted one when he moved in with us. 3 years later, he was happy we got one. I should have done it sooner in retrospect.

I'll admit, I never thought of that, but you have a point.

Thank u for answering Sig..
I still think 8 or so minutes is a long time to be sitting there naked, freezing “the boys” off..
I appreciate the first hand experience..

Seems like you could have the shower on WHILE it's filling, spraying "the boys" and other parts.
