Don't forget to increase the ballast on the back of your tractor after the weight loss. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: I\'m overweight!

Unfortunately, Rat, I'm probably a quarter to half inch shorter than you and nearly 10 pounds heavier. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif And the worst part is that the extra pounds are all right in the middle. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: I\'m overweight!

That BMI index is crapola. I'm 5'10 and weigh 185. According to the chart I'd have to be 150 lbs to be in the middle of the "safe" range. The BMI makes no adjustments for muscle vs fat. At 165 (I was that about 5 years ago) everyone asks me if I've been sick. I'd like to get back to 175 or less tho, I feel better when I'm a little leaner............

It also says my 5'3" wife could weigh up to 145 lbs and be in the "healthy" range, 7" shorter and only 5 lbs lighter is ok? Plus there's no difference in the calculator between men and women - it's nonsense........

When you feel healthy and strong and like the way you look, that's your ideal weight, number don't mean anything...........

Bird, don't feel bad. I'm 5'11" and 195 but most of my fat is in my head. The advantage to that is that on my hills I can shift the weight to the uphill wheels pretty easily by knodding my head off to that side of the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: I\'m overweight!

DocHeb,

two less beers a day

If I did that I would have NO beer! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Or are you saying I can drink four beers a day if I have two less. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Later,

Re: I\'m overweight!

Doing cardio and weight training is effective, if you stick with it and watch what you eat. I hate doing these things, so I use the other method.

It's easier to not eat something then it is to work off the calories you gain by it.

If you don't eat it, you wont have to work it off.

I know, easier said then done, but like DocHeb said, eat smaller portions.

Over time, you're stomache will decrease in size and you will become full on less food. I'm a binger and can easily gain ten pounds very quickly. I can eat until I'm sick, and do it again. To maintain my weight, I just try real hard to stop snacking and eating seconds.

Re: I\'m overweight!

Add on 16 ounces of water with an apple/carrot or equivalent fruit/vegetable, 30 minutes before lunch and dinner. This starts triggering the "satiety" hormone production that tells you you're "full". Listen for that first twinge of "I'm full", stop eating and walk away from the table. No snacks between meals or bedtime. Realize when you are eating out of boredom or for comfort (i.e., not from hunger).

You will lose weight.

Re: I\'m overweight!

Interesting ideas and comments. I don't put much stock in the generic BMI or appropriate weight chart for my height either. More then anything, I used it to get some attention. Truth is, I feel good at +200lbs, but I feel great at about 185lbs or so. I think that is my ideal weight for my size with height really having little to do with it. Some good comments here.

Re: I\'m overweight!

You feel great at 185 because it is your ideal weight? Or could it be because you are not as physically active now as you were then? I'm only 5'8" and weigh in at 185 lbs. I actually like this weight though it would be considered high for any such chart. I'm far more powerful now than I was back when the scale would only register 160. And back then I was pumping iron nearly every day. Couldn't put on the weight and it drove me crazy. A few years later I discovered that I feel just as good at 185 as I did at 160 when I am maintaining some type of physical activity. As someone else stated, muscle mass is quite heavy. Don't think these charts take that into account.
