I\'m overweight!

I now weigh 207lbs. At 6'0". I'm quite overweight according to this site BMI Calculator I actually feel overweight to and would love to drop down to about 185lbs, my high school weight and the weight that allowed me to stuff a basketball, barely. What methods do some of you guys use to reduce weight? I am over by 28.1 lbs but also realize that I am much larger boned then most of my friends, at least thats the excuse that keeps me thinking everything is OK. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Your comments are appreciated or at the very least, potentially comical. Thanks, RaT.....

Re: I\'m overweight!

According to your chart, when I was 18 and had just stepped out of Parris Island, I was overweight.

Dont put a lot of stock in a chart.

Re: I\'m overweight!

too drop body fat the best and most efficent way is to train with both some sort of weight resistance and aerobic activity first thing when you awake after you get up and before you eat . you get into a fat burning mode much faster than after youve had some food as this increases you carbs and slows the fat buring process . weight training in th after noons with two days of complete rest between muscle groups . training the muscle keeps micro taers in the tissue which your body uses more calories to repair itself . now you dont have to hurt yourself lifting but it does make losing body fat easier and makes any lose tone look alot better the aerobic part of your morning should be atleast 25 minutes and working up to 1 hr 6 days a week for more info on this got to body for life website . ok guys im off the stump now lol and good luck in your efforts

Re: I\'m overweight!

first off all, good luck. Secondly, I'm also of the mind to not put too much into a chart. If you feel good, and body feels OK, you are probably pretty healthy. And it's been proven that some slim people can potential be in worse health than the supposedly "overweight" person...

lastly, if you want to lose weight, try what I do: cut out the beer; stop eating too much heavy/fatty meats and stuff; chop more wood /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Unfortunately, the beer comes around towards the end of the week, followed by B-B-Q, which then indirectly effects my ability to chop any wood... oh well... try brisk walking in the AM, before eating any breakfast... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m overweight!

Rather than go by the chart visit a Doctor for a complete pysical.

Think there is more to being overweight than just weight. May depend on the location of the fat , muscle mass, bone density, etc, etc.

Think the only true method of determing body mass is by comparing underwater weight to the normal weight???

Re: I\'m overweight!

Ah Grasshopper!

You are on the path of enlightenment. You will not lose weight until your disgust at your weight outweighs the hunger pangs and the comfort of eating.

Weight loss is a simple thing: Calories In less than Calories Out.

If you make drastic changes in your activity or diet you will not be able to sustain - this is the reason for "diet failures". The best way to lose weight is the way you gained it - a couple pounds a year.

Cut out 250 calories a day - one cookie instead of three, water at dinner instead of milk, two less beers a day - there will be a slow and gradual, but more importantly, sustainable weight loss.

Exercise will increase your metabolism, increase your Calories Out, but only the truely insane can make drastic sustained changes in this. I don't think you're motived for this.

Good Luck
