1*You are now in the Upper echelon ....I am still stuck with the 50 gal barrel....no such deal around here....that is great ....

1*I use a 55 gallon drum here but i can add as many 15 30 or 55 gallon drums as need to this rig.
2*Mine is locked up in a windowless building .2*Blue I hope you have a good lock, good watch dog and or Shotgun, because a farmer friend of mine has had a lot of trouble..It is starting to be a lot of money stuck out there in the dark, and some people... well you know some people..are Um..scum.
Out of sight out of mind.
3*This was considered when i was trying to deside if i wanted to make mine a portable or a stationary system .blueriver.
Trust you continue to have a good hay crop.
I still use the 55 gal. barrel also 5 gal. square plastic containers.
3*Tractor isn't always near the standing tank. and a fuel trailer was considered then talked out of using because of others need.
So far still a good year here.
I decided on a stationary system when it dawned on me that it was easier to take the tractor to the station than it was to take the station to the tractor.
4*That depends on who he buys it from the some one or the fuel delivery out fit.Consider how much diesel has gone up each year the past few years.
Off road has gone up porportionally. It would be nice for you but
4*the someone near you willing to sell you 50 gallon will be paying more than you paid him just to replace the same 50 gallon next time.
5*Simply keep an extra drum there & have it filled as need when ever the delivery company is there.Ask a local supplier if they deliver anywhere near you and
5*tell them next time they are in the area you will be happy to meet the delivery truck and fill your 50 gallon tank.
6*That's why you leave an extra drum there .Since he lives in NY there probably is someone nearby that heats their home with an oil furnace. Same stuff as Diesel Supreme.
6*Timing would be tough to meet the truck.
They can fill a 275 gallon tank and be gone quicker than you fill a car in town.
see #5.
7* The loss is to the individual you buy from.now thats an idea... now to find a willing company...
off road prices might have gone up - but should be cheaper then on road due to taxes difference. As for your comment for guy paying more..... hmm I just dont see how. If I left my barrel there prepaid for 50 gallons while supplier fill his tanks....
7* just where is the loss?
There is no loss to him if you buy from the fuel supplier.
8*Buying from the individual is different than buying from the fuel supplier because the individual has the cost of buying owning operating and maintaining his storage system. That was not your original plan.
8* You said: "it would be nice If I knew someone near me that gets off road in their tanks willing to sell me 50 gallons at a time"
In 2010 I paid $2.74 per gallon for off road diesel. In 2011 it was $3.70 per gallon. You can call a distributor in your area to see what it is now.
My point was.... based on your original plan, that whomever you purchased your 50 gallon from would lose $50 selling it to you versus using it in his own equipment based on historical prices in my area.
I doubt if NY is much different.
9*If you can find somebody that will allow you to leave an empty barrel to be filled on his property based on NY fuel liability laws, go for it.
10*The convenience of having fuel available when needed and not having to lift 5 gallon cans of fuel over 5 feet in the air to reach the inlet of the tractor tanks makes having an elevated gravity flow tank worth it to me and
11*thousands of others.
Buying from him could cause him to run short on fuel for his own needs.
9*That would be the way to go .
10*Me to .>>>>>>>
11*I'm 1 of those.
