I would find a new repair guy. It sounds like HE did not want to tear into a gear box.

Long story short is you may not like the price, but there has been very few times a green machine ends up useless because a part is NLA.

Before believing your local repair guy I'd log into jdparts.com and check it out for sure.

Even if jdparts.com says a part is NLA, the Deere dealers have the ability to check other dealers stock. Many times a dealer, somewhere in the country, will have one sitting in stock that can be brought in.

The canopy kit for my 2240 is NLA by jdparts.com, but there are around 2 dozen of them sitting in dusty boxes around the country at various dealerships. Also, I won't have to pay shipping if I am willing to wait for it to be delivered standard freight.

My parts guy claimed they have two giant warehouses in the midwest that hold an unbelievable amount of parts. Told me if I wanted a steel wheel for a Waterloo he could get it.

I got to do a will call pick up at the Dallas JD warehouse. It is out of this world - HUGE next to Love Field has millions of parts in it.

Call a John Deere dealer.

I dunno, but I have the same unit, same age. Just backed into a stump and bent under the back edge so the blades impacted it and actually cut a hunk away. Steel is too thick to bend back by hand, I'll have to have it heated and bent back and then maybe weld in a little extra steel back there.

DON'T HEAT THE METAL! Cold shape it with a body hammer (mallet) and backing block.​
