Implement Dollies

   / Implement Dollies #41
I have 5 attachments on dollies stored under the pallet rack in the shop.

That is what I am working towards this winter. I have firewood stacked 2 rows deep across the back of the shed...taking up good real estate. My plan: burn that wood first, build a 4x20 storage shelf (supported by 4x4 posts) where the wood is now, 6 ft tall. Then, I can store my tiller, blower, grapple, etc, under this nice (strong) shelf that will allow me to store all my junk on top. When your attachments are on wheels, you can have out of the way areas to store this stuff.

The Harbor Freight furniture dollies are not useful for implements with any decent weight or size to them. The casters are too small and the bearings are poor. I put an empty ballast box (about 120 lbs) on one and it didn't want to roll on my concrete barn floor. The dollies themselves are not that large, so for a tractor width implement you'd need multiple dollies.

I can weld but wood is cheaper so I made mine from 2x6s and 2x4s. The box blade dolly works well. The combination pallet fork and grapple or bucket dolly saves space but with two attachments it's pretty heavy. Even with 6" casters it takes some effort to get it rolling.

I have a ballast box on a carry all that must weigh about 600 lbs and it rests on two of the small HF dollies. Works well...but only just it did this year...maybe after a while they will fail???? But for $8 ea I can live with them lasting a couple of years. Cannot buy the casters for what these things cost.

Put my brush hog, rake, and tiller on the same dollies...so far so good. Used under on an old Western plow as well. Makes storage and attachment easy.
