The plow I keep at the house sits upright on its own. The 5-bottom and 6-bottom plows at the farm have a "kickstand" that came on the from the factory.

The "legs" on the planter were added because I just got sick of looking at a stack of 5-gallon buckets under such a nice planter.

I did the same thing with my Landpride rake. With gage wheel on it rolls around the barn without problems.

Is it just me, or does it make sense for the manufacturer to just add these types of “conveniences” as standard equipment? I mean, how much $ could these simple yet effective “kickstands” add to the manufacturing costs of these implements?

Some manufacturers do have kick-stands as standard equipment. My Woods 7' rear blade has one on it. Also my CCM tiller has a factory stand. I agree with you though I think it should be standard accross the board.

DMF,
A lot of equipment does come with legs now. But, you know, it would only cost the manufacturer $20 or so to add them when they build the implements. (unless it was JD, better make that $50) It would seem to me that just to save possible future litigation, that everything would come with a set of stands. From the initial assembly at the factory to final assembly at the dealer, you would think that they would not want an out-of-balance several-hundred pound object to fall on someone.
What's puzzling is that most post hole diggers are still without any type of supports.

As Gene said, Woods does this with their stuff. I had one on my rear blade, landscape rake and tiller all of which were Woods.

Indydirtfarmer-
Could you give us an idea of the stock and hardware used to make your stands? What should I have on my shopping list when assembling the parts to make a couple cool stands for my stuff.
