Improved angle control mod. for JD 47 front blower

Keeny, thanks for the photo. I wish I'd seen your original post a couple years ago. I built a snowblower and copied the JD chute rotator mechanism design. Actually I only copied the concept, adapting to the cylinder I bought and the pulleys I found, etc. Even after I studied the JD owners manual pics (from manuals I borrowed) real carefully, once I built it I realized I had miscalculated the leverage the system offered. I had hoped for about 200 degrees of rotation, but once it was adjusted correctly , surprise the darn thing rotates over 300 degrees! So I can throw snow into my own face from either direction. But, thanks again because that marked up photo you posted is a nice reference.

Thanks Keeney

I applied your modification to my 47 snowblower, estimate my angles to 230 or better, my cables were to short so I added 12inches to new ones. Also I used cable connectors to the underside as mount stops. Took awhile to get the adjustment to my satisfaction. I did some thing similiat to my Honda snow blower except it took a machinist to add slots to the turn shoot.

As far as a deflector control, john deere does make a cable control type, but the mount for it is not right I'm making own to me its mounted out of reach, with too much angle. It should pull straight out when you reach to adjust the deflector angle.

Thanks to the OP and thanks for bringing this back up as I totally missed it! Anyhow I've always HATED the poor rotation angle f my model 47 blower on my 455 and you'd better believe I'll be working out this mod soon. I was always going to try to lengthen the stroke of the cylinder which would be a major pain, but this looks like it could do well!

I'll have to look and see, but I think my cable is quite different in that the cable ends tie down to the chute itself. My cylinder is more of a cast piece also as I recall. Been a while since I looked at it.

OK mine is exactly as pictured. I barely got 180ー if that out of mine. I've hated this thing (bought new 96 model) for years because of this. One thing that I did notice was a ton of slop in the cylinder eye where it attached to move the pulley rack. This should have been bushed tight with a sleeve, but instead an undersized bolt was used and no sleeve. What I did with mine was I cranked it down tight for now so it has no slop.

I routed my cables as shown and it works awesome so far. If a guy juat had an inch or two longer cables... I also wonder about a high quality coated cable and possibly casting your own lead ball on the end with a fishing jig mold...
