in floor heating

I'm thinking about installing in floor heating in my pole barn. My building is 28x40x12. Does anyone have any info on how to do it (without spending a fortune on a commercial system?) Can I use a domestic hot water tank?

Do a google search on "radiant floor heat" and "hydronic floor heat" and you will get a lot of good hits.

Water heater use as a source depends on your local code. In WI you cannot use a water heater unless the mfr has listed radiant heat as an approved usage.

Assuming that you intend on installing a concrete floor, not too long ago I saw a class action suit against the manufacturer of the tubing as it had a tendency to rupture after some period of time. Just something to think about.

Overall, I hear that the heating is even and comfortable, yet slow to respond to heating demands.

While it is possible for a remote leak on the non metallic tube like Wirsbo, in all the years I was in the HVAC industry I saw but one leak under a concrete floor and it was plumbed with copper.

This is how I did it. F/BB/WP reflective insulation underneath, wire to tie the tubing to and 600' of PEX tubing for a 24' by 24' area. I will be heating it with an outside wood boiler.
