in your opinion, whats more useful, a logging winch or wicked grapple?

You wouldn't want to bet against me in a race loading a trailer against a flat bottomed grapple though.......:)

Your right about that, I don't like taking people's money....

But seriously though, I'm the same as you, just because something works well for me, doesn't mean it would for others. What gets me is when people think that just because they have something that works, it's the best for everyone.

Regarding the winch, did you look into how much the remote setup cost? I was looking into the FX110 (pretty sure that's the model) and it was about $4k. I would want the remote but it's not a necessity.

(Course, now that I might be losing my job in the next few months I'm not actually buying anything anyways) but still curious :)

Though forks can be very useful in the woods as well, it seems the op is mostly comparing a grapple vs winch. However, a set of forks would be better than using the bucket, so if he can't get both the grapple and winch, and decides he really needs a winch because of a unique circumstance, then perhaps he'd be able to get both the winch and a set of forks?

I have forks for both the front and rear, but mostly only use them for lumber on occasion. Although they "can" be used for many (but certainly not all) of the same jobs, they are not nearly as efficient.

There really is no comparison between a grapple and forks. Not apples to apples anyways.

I like Deerherd's setup!!!! I personally don't have enough use for the 3pt winch setup to justify it. But in his case I think it's an awesome setup.

I can see a place for Rob's fork/grapple setup as well. But it wouldn't fit my needs. I want/need the ability to use the Grapple and then 10 seconds later use the bucket, with no changeouts. That's why I posted the dirt picture along with the brush picture. The versatility fits my program.

Well, so far NO one has shown me a dedicated grapple doing something my forks and grapple can't do...

I also have a winch on the back, and have used a dedicated grapple quite a bit, and "I" just haven't found where the grapple shines above the forks & single grapple arm that I own... (EXCEPT the thing that seems most important on this site... L :) :) Ks) lol

You can't move cut firewood. image-4159883834.jpg image-2576810344.jpg How does this help the OP anyway? A set of hydraulic adjustable width forks with a claw is no cheaper than a grapple. He is still going to need 3rd function hydraulics. With the pallet forks he is going to need 3rd function and a diverter to run the slider. What can you do that I can't do with the grapple and pallet forks?

For some reason I thought the OP was talking about a PTO winch vs. a Grapple that's on the rear of a tractor, my mistake. Therefore a PTO winch and FEL Grapple is/does a totally different main function and cant really be compared side by side, it's like trying to compare apple-pie and ice-cream, totally totally different, but are GREAT together. I'm glad I straighten this out.
