I'm kind of curious to know how someone defined a specific number of POI's. I mean isn't that kind of subjective? It is a Point of Interest after all. What constitutes an "official" POI?

In my world it's offroad trails, motorcycle and tractor dealerships, and microbreweries. You know... the good stuff.

Don't know how they defined it, but I figure it to be anything with an address (non residential). I know for sure that the stock POI files are lacking.

Could also be defined by who is willing to pay to be included as a POI (restaurants, hotels, gas stations, etc.). I'm sure hospitals, airports, possibly state or national parks are freebies, but the others ......

Why would I want a gps to tell me how to get to a place that I alreday know how to get to?

As stated.. it's for my wife.. not me.. she's not real computer literate.. plus.. for the one that hooks tot he pc and the software.. etc.. it's only a little more to buy a portable GPS system. etc..

I know you were replying to rollingfarm.. the person who posted right after my message, His post stated he was going to watch this thread for info because he to was interested in in a gps.

lets be reasonable...my answer still stands.. that is a 'head slap' ''DOH" kind of thing.. I doubt anybody really wants to get a GPS so they can pull out of their driveway

I didn't say, call, or imply that you were stupid.. .. I did however imply that your answer didn't apply well to the post you quoted and replied to.

besides.. if anybody wants to spend 150-500$ just to have a tow that maps.. why not... Many of them offer alternate route planning, like least time /least miles routes.. so.. even if you know where you are going.. you might still benefit from an alternator route... or one. that say.. avoids toll roads.. or freeways// or unsealed roads.. All of these are optins I se. Plus some offer traffic reporting wtih the addition of an extra transceiver.. etc.

As with any gadget.. they will be more usefull or less useful.. depending on who's hands they are in... For me? Not so usefull ... I know N,S,E,W .. now.. for my wife... yeah.. pretty usefull.. she is the kind that DOES travel with maps to places she's been! :0

you can create your own POI files & download them to the unit. Some units even have a SD slot for added storage space...

There are web sites you can go to and download POI files for just about anything you're interested in. Wendy's, Starbucks, red-light cameras, etc. etc. Just Google "POI"

Well after looking at the new Garmins and getting the itch to upgrade. I bought a Nuvi 260 today. Best Buy had it on sale for $229.99. I was in the Staples parking lot so, I printed the Best Buy online ad and they Matched it at Staples. I had $15+ in rewards points so, out the door for $215. I'll try it out next week.

Heck, I just want to know where I am right now My oldest son has one and loves it....I say give me an atlas and a good navigator (I'm amazed at how few people seem able to read maps and give directions) and I can go anywhere.
