How many times have you had to tell someone "No, the OTHER right"? Try this sometime in a large group....when you are the speaker or have their attention. Tell them you are going to ask them to do something very simple, and you want them to do it instantly...then say "raise your left hand" or the right....you will probably be amazed at how many get it wrong, and that has always led me to believe that half of those who got it correct did so only by random chance.

I purchased one from another member of this board when he upgraded. (Thanks again by the way) I used the speedometer on it in a truck that the speedometer was haywire. The mechanics set the computer in the truck to run 70 mph, but the Garmin said it was running 86mph. Enough of a difference to get you a serious ticket. Since then I have changed jobs and run a little further than just in town. The Garmin works fine, and I often use it even when I know where I am going. However, my preference has been the laptop with Microsofts mapping program in it, as I can see more of the picture and route my own way to my distination. Sometimes the GPS wants to take the scenic route, which isn't good when you are paying for a leased truck by the mile, especially with fuel prices like they are.
For those of you that travel to places you have never been, either is great but the GPS is easier to listen to than a laptop is to see while driving down the road.

Why would I want a gps to tell me how to get to a place that I alreday know how to get to?

Well, I find that feature extremely useful. I used to drive about a 7 hour trip once or twice a month. I knew just where I was going, but would sometimes get bored and start daydreaming. The GPS would always warn me a mile before my exits, which saved quite a few overshoots.

Maybe this is demonstrating "senior moments", but I used to do it when I was young too.

The other thing I found was quite a few shortcuts on routes I thought I knew quite well.

Actually I have done this a number of times as well. When I first got my Garmin, I would have it map routes to places I already knew to test the features / accuracy, and to get familiar with the device. I now have a better sense of trusting it (80%) after going through these test runs......
