I am contemplating buying a boom pole for my JD990.
I would appreciate any and all info on costs, what a boom
pole will lift and any experiences you have had with poles.
Thanks.

Considering the size of your tractor, there's not much choice.
Cat 1.
They're all pretty much standard: 3/4" lift pins, six foot length, 1000# max lift capacity. All you really have to worry about is color - and price.

I have a boom pole for my Kubota B2910. It allow me to reach out and high. I have mounted it on my FEL.

Before I bought the B2910 I had a Farmall 340. To make it work good on the 3 PH I installed a hydraulic top link. This allows the boom to lift much higher. Doing a search for Boom Pole on TBN will get you a lot of information how others have used one.

Here is a thread on how I mounted mine on the FEL.

JD990,I got my BP from my local dealer for $70 it is red /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif...It has well earned its keep with all its lifted from toting 3' diameter tree stumps with roots included ,22' railroad ties and the biggest thing I ever picked up was a 31' 14"tall steel beam that I picked up off the trailer and sat on the corner wall of my bank barn. It was cool to be able to move that big rascal with my old Massey 135 /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Get one you won't be sorry ,Who nows they might evem come in green? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Boom poles seem to range from about $60 to $100. I prefer a boom pole that has a hook on the end, and one near the middle. I understand the better ones are made with round steel at the hook up instead of angle, however, I have angle, and it has held up well under all loads. One can use a boom pole in so many ways, tying on near the bottom for more stability, or tying near the ends to get height on something that isn't too heavy (that could cause front tire lift).
I have found the tool to be invaluable, and I'm always finding new ways to make it useful even though I have a front end loader. John

If you are also planning, or already have (your bio information is empty so I can't determine what equipment you have) a post hole digger, you might already have a boom pole. Just take off the PTO shaft and the drive head. The Leinbach PHD I have is like this.

My local NH dealer threw one in for free when I bought about $2500 in implements from him. Used the boom pole to lift the implements off the trailer, and have also used it to move automotive parts around. Don't use it all the time, but it's nice to have when you need it.

OK folks, After reading this and looking around I could also use something like that. But Heres the clincher, I want one that hooks up to the FEL and NOT the 3ph. They got anything like that around? If they do can you please post some links for me. I need the highth more than anything.
