I seem to remember someone else having a problem with a new JD emitting a lot of smoke. I tried to find the post but was unable to. I don't think he ever was able to eliminate the smoking and if memory serves said the dealer told him what you have been told, "Some Smoke".

okay thanks guys..I caught the Service Manager in time to have them throw a bottle of fuel conditioner in the cab before they deliver it back to me around mid day..I'll plan to give it a good workout this evening or tomorrow..Got lots of tall bahaigrass I can cut...

I think the smoke is normal for the 5093. Mine smokes a lot when running at lower rpm's or lower loads. Clears up at full rpm under high load, but lets out an occasional puff here and there. It's been like that since brand new, very hard on fuel for the size of the tractor but i seem to get about the same consumption as it is rated for. I burn about 20L/hour running a moco, 10l/hr loader work. I don't think the John Deere engineers had efficiency in mind when the built the E's injection system, but I knew JD's were hard on fuel when I bought it.

I 'll second everything you say..I got mine back from the dealer this morning..Smokes little to none at high rpm's even under load but was smoking at low rpm's and even at idle a little bit when accelerated..I added a can of sea foam, a heavy dose of Wal Mart diesel fuel treatment, and a heavy dose of John Deere's fuel treatment and mowed tall thick heavy bahaigrass for 2 hours..I noticed SIGNIFICANTLY less smoke after mowing! I'm loving this tractor now for the first time..Now if I can just find another job so that I can afford to keep fuel in it.. :)

Matt,

The only other thing that concerns me a little is that the hydraulics run hotter than any tractor I've ever used..My Kubota hydraulics never got hot..The aluminum hydraulic lines at the rear SCV's get too hot to hold with a bare hand when I've been mowing..Does your run that hot?

Yes, my hydraulics get very hot also.

Matt,
Okay thanks you make me feel better..:) I had considered swapping for a new Kubota but I just got back in from making another few rounds with the mower and I'm thinkin this Tier 3 John Deere might just be worth keepin...

Have you had any problems and how many hours is on yours?

Unfortunately I don't have news that you want to hear, lol. I have had many problems with mine and plan on getting something else when it fits my budget. My E has turned me off JD, probably not going to consider another one for a long time.

700 hours on mine now.

Crap..you really know how to take the wind out of a guys sail...:)

Care to elaborate on your problems???

I have a 12 year old 82 H.P. Kubota open station that has never had the slightest hiccup..If I should ever buy another I will not consider anything except a Kubota..

So far too many fluid leaks to count, gear shift problems, couple of switches in cab failed, turbo failure, and now I am waiting for the dealer to get back to me about a very loud bearing type noise in the transmission. I complained about it under warranty, dealer thought they fixed it but noise is still there. I am out of warranty now and have been waiting several months to find out if they are going to cover it.

It is a nice tractor to operate but I am very dissapointed in the quality, as well as the 3 point hitch.
