I'm probably about to get a new truck. I'm looking right now at the F150 and Ram 1500 both with V8 engines. I've driven Fords for 30 years, but frankly the current F150 doesn't impress me that much. I'd like to hear how Ram owners feel about thier trucks. Has it been reliable? Does it tow well? Fuel mileage? I'm looking at a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 and 3.92 axle. Thanks.

I currently drive a 2014 ram 1500 with 5.7L as a company work truck. Don't know what gears it has, but it accelerates well, and drives very nice. It doesn't have the "kick you back in the seat" off the line that my 5.0L F150 work truck had. Most of that is the added weight of the crew cab on the Dodge vs regular cab ford, and gearing I'm sure. Cab comfort is much nicer in the ram, feels bigger then the ford. This truck came with cloth split bench, and is plenty good, and I spend 6+ hours a day in it. Milage is between 17.0-18.3 mpg with mostly highway and at least an hour to two hours per day of idle.

Yeah, forgot to mention both trucks are crew cab. I did get the impression of more overall room in the Ram, at least the driver's seat. I'm 6'3" so that is important.

We were in the same boat a few years back. Story starts in 09, we were using a 99 Ram 2500 Diesel for business and needed to add another truck. I've always been a Ford Guy, and was never impressed with the reliability of the Dodge. It had a ton of power, just always had stuff needing to be fixed.

Started the search with the 2010 Ford and really didn't like the feel, and nearly freaked out when I popped the hood. Looked like a maintenance nightmare. After looking at the GMC and then Dodge, we Ended up with a 2010 Tundra CrewMax.

It's been the best vehicle we've ever owned. Drives great, tons of power, tows like a dream and now has 67,000 miles on the clock.

Last year we made a quick stop by the Ford dealer on the way to Toyota to get a 2013 Tundra Doublecab to add to the mix.

If you do your own maintenance, Pop the hood on the Ford, Dodge and then take a look at the Toyota.

Was also pleased to see it was made in Texas.

I looked at the Tundra, and I do like it a lot, but they want a $5000 premium over the Ford or Ram and I'm not sure I want it that bad.

Wait and get the 2015 F150. You will kick yourself if not.

Shop around, I got really close to the price of the Ford and Dodge.

I owned a 2012 ram with hemi 3.55 posi and quad cab. Interior felt cheap and awkward and it had a rattle over bumps that turned out to be one of the hood bumpers. That truck would haul ***** but got 14mpg no matter how I drove. I sold it to friend that loves it and bought a 2003 z71 extended cab. Always been a chevy fan. I just want a 4 door z71 for easier kid access.

Had a 2003 RAM 1500 with HEMI - the thing was literally bulletproof. Did almost nothing but regular maintenance to it - one exception was two front wheel bearing assemblies.

Traded it in on a 2013 RAM 1500 Bighorn. Love it. I easily run 15+mpg combined - upwards to 20mpg on the highway alone. Great features - great price. Have had that for 18 months now and it has been in the shop only once for a small issue with the radio. Software upgrade fixed that.

I measure satisfaction by the Mulligan rule. If you gave me a mulligan - I'd buy the truck again.

Sean.

Had a brand new 2013 RAM 1500 Express extended cab. After 4 months I went back to Ford. Mileage never went above 15 and if I threw 350 pounds of seamless gutter coil in the back it squatted some. Far as I'm concerned it was a grocery getter that someone tried to call a truck.
