Insight on buying a mini excavator vs renting

How many trips (disregard the obvious speed difference) do you need to make with a mini-ex to move one yard of excavated material 300 feet?

I would just load it into my dump ruck and make 1 trip...How land would it tale you to dog a 300 foot trench 4 feet deep with your backhoe....

I wonder which half is the operable one? The helo, or the mini? Jon

It doesn’t look like anything close to enough rotor to fly it and the mini would be totally worthless with that much tail swing even if the boom was operational.

Backhoe was a great tool for me on the construction sites. You can dig about any foundation, unload lumber or pallets, load a dump truck or grade off a new lawn area. I had forks which I liked using for steel beams, long garage door heads, etc.

The point being that a mini is a trench digging one trick pony, the TLB is much more versatile.
Not every person who owns a mini also owns, maintains, licenses, and insures, a dump truck,..... to haul material 300 ft.

I’m not sure what the point of the joke was. You might as well put a fire pit up there and throw money in it.

Checked out the Case again. Older at 15 years but decent shape. Only new paint is on the tail weight. Everything is tight. Brand new bucket and thumb. Hmmm PXL_20210226_183804920.jpgPXL_20210226_183756206.jpgPXL_20210226_183751039.jpgPXL_20210226_183748458.jpgPXL_20210226_183738755.jpgPXL_20210226_183734216.jpg

A few things that I use my MiniX for, other than digging a trench.. Is loading and unloading the salt spreader from the back of the dump truck. Can also be done with the BH but the mini is easier and faster. Digging and moving stumps.. Can also be done with the BH but so much faster and easier with the mini. Piling brush onto the burn piles every year... Soooo much faster and easier with the mini. I bought a Rutt rough cut mower last year for the mini x as well.. That thing is really nice to cut back the over growth...waaaaaay faster than doing it by hand.
A mini is certainly not just a trenching machine. They are a utility knife that can do several tasks.
