Install your own toothbar?

I worried about this problem when I got my Markham toothbar. But it turned out to be simple to drill.
Just measure well and center punch. Drill a 1/8 inch pilot hole. And then use a step drill like this one.

If it takes a big hole for your tooth bar you can use a hole saw and keep cutting fluid or even water on it to keep it cool and that works well.

A tooth bar is one of those add ons that you thank yourself over and over for installing it. I just finished adding a section of Bio-diffusers onto my septic system and that thing really made a difference.

I got a woods tooth bar and this thing is polished bright as a nickel and I haven't hurt it a bit.

I'm with Dex3361.
If the hole is larger than 1/2" or so and or your drill motor is on the small side, use a hole saw and cutting fluid or paste of some sort. Going this way may be cheaper than a step drill. Center punch the location of the hole and it won't hurt to use a small pilot drill to insure accuracy of the location. As another poster mentioned, if you do use regular twist drills to get up to a final size, be ready for when the drill grabs as it comes through. With a larger drill motor, your wrists can take a beating.

Bobcat sells toothbars. Good quality if they have your size. Expect to pay about $300.

Does anyone sell what I call "real teeth" for a bucket? When I think of bucket teeth, I think of the teeth found on backhoe and excavator buckets.

IIRC, Deere sells individual teeth for their ss buckets. Around $100 each I think.

One thing to consider when buying a tooth bar is that it has to fit your bucket pretty closely, not only length, but also lip design. My ss tooth bucket bar hooks under the lip bar.

When I ordered my Markham grapple rake last spring, I also got a toothbar for the bucket on my Kioti DK45SC. I had no problem drilling the mounting bolt holes using bits from a hardware store drill set. The teeth are pretty hefty (ie, not just tines) and sort of hook over the lip of the bucket. I think the toothbar helps stiffen and strengthen the front edge of the bucket quite a bit.

About what did you pay?

The Markham bar is $370.## delivered to my door. I'm gonna pull the trigger on that one today, unless the Woods one is a better deal.

Yeah, I've been thinking; I think I'll remove the QA bucket, stand it up on end, & ease my drill press into place. Drill with one hand & spray lube with the other.

Or just get my dad to stand there & spray :laughing:
