Hello,

I just got around to replacing the loader valve on my IH 284 gas tractor with a front loader on it. I installed it, and the front loader works good ! Except for the direction of the levelers are the opposite as it was before. Swing the leveler forward lifts the boom, instead of down like it did before. I was ok with this as I figured I can change it later. I jumped on the tractor and went to lift my brush hog with the 3 point.. and it did nothing. I dropped it all the way down before the new loader valve change. So I thought maybe I was low on fluid.. I only lost maybe a pint doing the change... I added more than a quart and its filled up past the fill plug on the side.

Now I'm thinking maybe the new valve is flowing all the fluid and not letting any pressure to the 3pt ? Maybe I got the in/out hoses backwards ?

This is the valve I I put on.. Prince Hydraulic Control Valve — 8 GPM, 2-Spool, Model# MB21BB5C1 | Control Valves| Northern Tool + Equipment

Open system as I needed, flow rating is 8 gpm, where my tractor is rated at 5.7.

Thanks for any help

Is your hyd system open center, where the fluid is flowing all the time?

Did you install the PB adapter?

If not, that is your problem.

All the flow after the FEL valve is going to tank and none to the 3pt.

The PB adapter allows the flow to continue downstream for the 3pt, and sends cyl fluid to tank. .

Yes, it is open center hyd system. The valve is setup for open center, and can be converted to closed.

What is the PB adapter ?

Ok, I looked at the instructions and valve some more this morning..

The pb adapter is for the power beyond option. If I'm understanding the instructions right.. to use the power beyond option, I need to put the plug in, and hook the output flow line in that port, and plug the other ports off. This will allow my 3pt to function ?

Your tank port still needs to go to tank.

PB adapter goes in the PB port.

This will separate the out flow so the cyl used fluid will go to the OUT port and the pump flow will pass on to the next valve.

I put the pb plug in, and plumbed it back together. Now, neither the loader and the 3pt works. So.. I dont know whats going on. I'm thinking of putting the old valve back on and see if the 3pt works again.

Are you positive you installed a PBY plug or did you possibly install a closed center plug in lieu of a PBY plug?

Does your PB adapter look like this, or this?

If you did install the correct adapter, did you run the tank hose to a return line and the PB line to the 3pt input?

If you did install the CC plug by mistake, the relief valve would be screaming.

Show us a close up pic of your valve

Thanks for the replies.. I appreciate the help.

I took a couple pics of my valve/tractor as I got home tonight.. I hope the pics show up correctly..

Yesterday, I tried a few different ways to plumb this valve together, and none worked.

The pictures of the plugs you posted.. the one I have is like the 2nd plug you posted. A hex plug.. it does not have a orifice like the first one has. This is the only plug I got with the valve.

I did try putting in the plug in the "C" port, and hooked the out line to the "C" port. With it this way.. the loader does not work.

If you only have pressure and return hoses then you don't have PBY attached to your tractor. Have you read these instructions?

I can see he doesn't have it right yet.

I thought I was clear on how to fix the problem.

Take that steel plug out of the C port, leave the hex screw in place.

Connect a hose from the C port going to the 3pt.

Your tank line should still be connected.

Every hyd valve has a tank line and must go to tank.

If you installed the hex plug and the steel plug in the C port, you made the valve a closed center valve. Bad move.

The valve came as an open center valve with a steel plug in C port, and an optional PB hex screw with instructions.

He did both.

But there's no 3rd hose from valve to tractor.

Tell him he has to get a new hose and run from the PB port to 3pt.

We have already said that in so many words.

JeepsAreBuilt ,

Remove that steel plug in C port, and leave the hex screw in place.

Get a new hose and run it from the C port to the 3pt.

Today, I went back out and tried again.. after reading your replies.. I believe I do understand how you guys are trying to tell me to do it. Except for the 3rd hose ? Is that my problem ? Well I took more pictures of how I did it again, after doing it again, it neither the loader or 3pt works. I also took a pic of my old valve.

Me holding the PB hex plug up to the "C" port where I installed it.

Heres the output hose hooked up to the "C" port after the hex plug installed. Input hose is going in the left side of the valve, Output hose is hooked to the "C" port and going back down to the 3pt control valve. Just 2 hoses.. no 3rd hose.

Heres my old valve that I replaced.. It worked fine, except that the bucket was dropping slowly, and I thought the pressure was bleeding though the valve. I tried putting in new o-rings with no luck. 3pt worked fine and the loader operated fine. It only had 2 hoses.. one "in" and one "out". I do see a port plugged off labled "PB"

I'm no hydraulic expert, but I believe the extra port on top with a "T" by it is supposed to go to tank. There must be something internal that is plugged or not routed correctly to keep the power beyond from working now. Does the hose on the pressure side of the valve jerk and get more rigid when the tractor is started?

   / Installed new loader valve - now 3pt lift won't work #19
It appears from viewing photo of the old valve that PB port was plugged with no hose attached to that port. IS THIS CORRECT IE old valve had pressure hose attached to "in port on valve" and return hose attached "to tank port"????

What don't you understand about my post.

Again, after screwing the PB hex screw in the C port, make a new hose and connect it to the C port and the 3pt.

Then run a hose from the tank port to tank.

You are making me look bad, as I thought I was perfectly clear on how to do the job right.
