Wifey wanted this for Christmas but other issues kept it from happenig like that.

None the less, the wheels are in motion. This is a propane ventless fireplace, in the bedroom (10,000 btu) and is remote/thermostatically operated, as well as manual of course.

To cut down the pictures, I didn't show the "first" installation of it where the wifey said she wanted "this & that" and I had no clue how to accomplish it all.

After SHE realized she was asking a bit much, she agreed to redo it and I tore it all down and put it up this way. It turned out to be MUCH easier to install this way, than the way she'd wanted.

Wifey attaches the marble (for the second time) this is the part she redid and I had to rip the first part out, fix the backer board and let her reinstall the new format

Cutting the plywood was a REAL pain in the hiney as I had to cut it in one piece, cut it to fit into a corner with mitres on each side, AND cut the hole for fireplace all by freehand.

I DID buy a new Milwaukee circular saw /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif and a sharp as all getout Freud blade at the recommendation of the HD dude. That blade did a BEAUTIFUL cut on the plywood (3/4 Birch)

The semi finished fireplace.

Wifey still has to figure out some of the details she wants on it, but that's her issue, I'm just the grunt man.

The top isn't installed yet

Some of the trim pieces butting up the the fireplace itself, were too tall. The only way we could get them to fit was to shave them down.,

Wifey suggested I hand hold them and use a jigsaw /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I told her I'd use the rotozip as I'd mentioned on this site a while back (rotozip upside down inside bucket with "table" on top to work on)

I used the straight edge I bought for plywood cuts and did a nice job.

The part I was trimming. Since the trimmed edge went against the fireplace, the rough edge didn't matter

Looks great! I just wish I had enough room in my bedroom for one of those!

Looks great, I recently did a tear-out and rebuild (well, it's almost done) with a gas fireplace in our living room. I can't imagine doing it twice. Good job.

Richard, please make sure you read and clearly understand the manufacturers installation requirements regarding installing fossil burning equipment in bedrooms. Also, please install a carbon monoxide detector in the bedroom; and ensure your unit has an oxygen sensor, and that it is working. The oxygen sensor should shut down the unit if oxygen is depleted in the bedroom. The carbon monoxide detector should alert you if high levels of carbon monoxide are present in the room.

While manufactures will state their unvented appliances are safe, they were tested in laboratories and were "expertly tuned" to ensure the oxygen sensors were working correctly and that a minimum amount of carbon monoxide is given off. In reality, when fossil burning appliances are installed in the field, they have been jostled during shipping and installation, and may no longer be "expertly tuned".

Also, no one should sleep in the room when the appliance is operating. With carbon monoxide, you only get one chance.

You can get more information on carbon monoxide at:
http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/coftsht.html

Please don't think I am trying to rain on your parade, because I am not. I have some first hand knowledge of the dangers of carbon monoxide and I don't want to see anyone go through the problems that a few hours of breathing carbon monoxide can bring.

I'd say it would be pretty much worthless if you can't sleep in the bedroom with it. After all, thats what a bedroom is for isn't it? Oh, well I guess there are other uses /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

We tend to use both our fireplaces only when we are up. We get home from work, turn it (downstairs) on, when the place warms up and we're ready for bed, we turn it off. I don't think we'll ever try to sleep with this one on..besides, it's sort of self limiting...

Wifey didn't want a large LP tank outside, so I use a larger version of the grill tank. I think it's about 50% larger than the typical tank for a grill.

Pain in the neck to keep swapping out, but MUCH easier than lugging the 100 lb tank around, so I dont' use those. I have them as backup in case we get snowbound.
