i helped my son in law install a new water line last week: about 200ft: actually i wasn't much help, but i was there for most of it: we used my tractor, and a middle buster first: couldn't get the ditch as deep as we wanted with that, so we put on my subsoiler an ran that in the ditch several times: then the son in law, shoveled it out an installed the line...i never have liked shovels...i have a pipe welded on the back of my subsoiler, for laying flexable lines, but the temp was low enough, i was afraid it wouldn't work: plus we were using pvc instead of black pipe: some time ago, someone posted a pic of how to fasten pvc to the bottom of a subsoiler, an pull it thru the ditch: if anyone can locate that post or post another, i sure would appreciate it: i have a couple hundred ft of pipe i want to do this spring..but if you remember my previous point..i don't like shovels.

pvc gets brittle in the cold ,better off using one inch black well pipe

That is popular on golf courses they do not want shovel marks on the turf. What it is, is a vibratory plow that is pulled by a Ditch Witch type of machine. The vibrating subsoiler opens the ground larger than the pipe so in fact the pipe is being pulled into a dirt tunnel. There is also a air powered thumper for gas lines that works from pit to pit maybe 75 'aslong as it does not hit a stone and go off target.

that type puller is what i need, but i will be putting in one inch pvc, an i didn't find any that go that small?? if i use the pipe i have welded on the back of the subsoiler, i would use black plastic line, or maybe even pex??? but should be able to pull the pvc, i hope anyway.

Ive seen guys put a chain larger reducer coupling a nipple then reducer coupling to pipe thread pipe in to the last joint the reducer coupling will make some clearance for the pipe.

thats a good idea....i could put a piece of 1.25inch steel or galv pipe in front of the pvc an then an adapter to attach the pvc: thanks

I pulled a bunch of 1" irrigation pipe with my subsoiler, up to 200' in length. Glued it together above ground, taped the end and used a hose clamp with baling wire to pull it. Someone on this site took a PVC cap, drilled a hole in it, attatched an eyebolt and then glued it to the run of PVC, they used the eyebolt to attach to the subsoiler and pulled that way.

Dang, I needed to see this thread a month ago:D

Over Christmas I ran 260 feet of 5/8" PVC line from my shop to the barn. I used my subsoiler with flatbar spike to trench the run. It wouldn't get quite deep enough, and of course the soil was still in the trench for the most part. I went to my neighbor's place and borrowed his subsoiler, which had a proper plow bit on it. (It was green, and my orange tractor complained a bit at first, but finally settled down:D). I was able to get deeper and the flared bit pushed enough of the soil out of the trench that it took minimal shoveling.

I then glued 10 foot sections of pipe together, laid, pressure tested, covered.

Pulling the pipe while trenching would have saved me some time and effort.

And don't ask me why we lost phone service during this project.:D:D
