You have the "nice stuff" in abundance my friend. That view, those many springs, happy dogs, happy family, 176 acres and on and on...you got it!

This post was for the guy in Idaho ...sorry Brandi! I have followed your pond adventures for a year or so and been quite interested. Best to you, Jim

Jim,
He does have a nice spot. Thanks for posting.
hugs, Brandi

I like seeing the cranes and egrets on my pond. I know that they are eating fish, but I figure they wont get them all and I'd rather see the nice looking birds then have a few more fish and not see the birds.

Yes, they and water turkeys add a lot of "eye" value. How is the weather up there?

Half an inch yesterday and just over an inch today with a bit more coming. It's all be light and steady rain, which has led to some runoff, but no like a good thunderstorm!!!! We're hoping for that to happen on Tuesday. The small pond has been full since the end of summer, but Lake Marabou is still about three feet low.

Glad to hear you are getting wet, Eddie. Do you have any thread started on your new girlfriend?

We have duck(lings) here. I bought 10 unsexed Mallards from Tractor Supply. TSC has ducklings and chicks in 150 gallon galvanized water tanks. I was going to buy a tank until I saw the price of $!34.95. Instead I bought a 45 gallon rubbized water tank for $43.99. I put pine shavings in the bottom, along with a feeder and waterer. I made a 1x2 frame covered with hardware cloth for the top to keep any rodents or litter critters out. A heat lamp makes it warm and cozy. I'll start on a 8x8x6 foot cage out of chicken wire, for when they outgrow the water tank. When they are old enough to keep their feathers waterproofed, I will move them to the pond.

Only water they get now is drinking water. When I move them to the cage, I'll put a pan of 1/4 inch deep water from them to play in and generally make a mess.
hugs, Brandi

Brandi, cute chill'ns you have there! This time off year, that section of TSC is where everyone seems to be:laughing: How long until their "waterproofed"?, I have seen wild ones in the water as soon as they could walk, at least that's how it appeared. I never had ducks, just some geeses and a pair of swans.

Way back when I was a youngun my best friend and I decided to raise some ducks. I have a spring on my property so we built an enclosure with a pond we dug inside of it for them to enjoy. Little did we know what kind of ducklings we bought at the farmer's market. They turned out to be muscoveys who decided that they want to fly south when the geese flew overhead. Had to trim their flight feathers so they couldn't fly.

What an experience. :)
