Anyone have experience with your instrument panel glass turning a cloudy white color on top half and some of it looks like a dripping shapes after running at PTO RPMs for quite a while--for example brush hogging a field.

I have a JD 2740

Condensation inside the instrument. See it all the time. It usually clears up after it warms up.

I have a 2520, and I get some condensation during cool down after about an hour of mowing. It clears up fairly quick. Obviously, some moisture is getting in there, but I cant figure out how. It's not ideal, but I'm not too worried about it.

My JD 4300 does that when I have been bush hogging for several hours. It really doesn't look like condensation and it is usually hot dry days when I am out mowing. The first time it happened, it looked like the plastic had gotten too hot and was permanently damaged so I was surprised when it was cleared up the next day. It doesn't cause any real problem and it does always clear up.

I don't know about the 2x20s or the 2x40s, but the JD4x00s have a glass instrument
cover that is varnished on the inside. The varnish can go bad, as well as the rubber
gasket. On my last 4300, I took the cluster apart and used a razorblade scraper to
remove the varnish. Now, it looks like new.

A good rubber gasket should keep the humidity out.

My 4200 had the same problem.I took the cluster apart, removed the lens, cleaned it and the gasket with rubbing alcohol and reinstalled.no more problems

My 4300 has the same issue. Glass will cloud up and then clear as it cools. Never have taken the cluster apart, figuring I'd probably screw something up...

Also had the same problem on a 2000 yr JD4700. The dealer was "helpful" and more than happy to sell me a replacement instrument module that "would eliminate the problem". And of course the new one clouded up just like the original. So, like everyone else, I just grinned and beared it, like most loyal JD'ers.

Hair dryer.

Try cleaning the inside lens surface with Rain-X anti-fog or Kleer VU. As mentioned above, it's condensation and the anti-fog should solve your problem.

And of course the new one clouded up just like the original.

If you remove the glass lens from the rubber gasket and put some clear silicone on both sides of the
gasket, that should fix the fogging problem. The cluster is not hard to remove.

I had mine replaced under warranty and my 1600 hour 4410 now shows only 1000 hours. The new panel is no different than the old. Nice to hear it's an easy fix.

Had the same problem on my 4610. Glass would cloud up after several hours. Did it from the first day so JD replaced it under warranty New one did the same thing, so like others, I just lived with it. Several months ago, I started having trouble with erroneous readings on the temp gauge. Traced the problem back to the panel. The gauge is an integral part of the panel circuit board so you have to replace the whole panel to get a working gauge. Don't know if years of this problem caused it or not. I like to think it did. And like pmsmechanic, my 1800 hr 4610 now only has 100 hrs on it. If I keep my mouth shut, I might do pretty good on a trade, ya think? ;-) Oh, and by the way, the brand new panel does the same thing. Clouds up after about 4 hours.

It is not just John Deere, I bought a new Harley in 2003 and it has done the same thing since day one. Dealer response"they all do it so it is normal". No it is a defect in your design that all suffer from.
