Hello all,

This is my first post. I've been a lurking member for many years. This past summer I purchased a JD1070TLB on an internet auction estate sale. Location of the estate was 60 miles from my home and the auction company provided time to closely inspect the items. The original owner had many pieces of equipment with very low hours (e.g. 753 bobcat with 60 hours, JD 4x4 gator with 20 hours, JD455 with 50 hours). I understand he liked stuff and bought it then wrote it off against his small business. The original owner had no family.

This tractor had 26 total hours on it. I don't believe the backhoe was ever used. The loader bucket had some normal wear for the hours listed. All-in-all a nice clean unit. Everything works as it should. First thing was changing all the fluids and then a good cleaning/detailing.

I've got 11.4 acres of very rocky level land, 5 of which are still in farm field. The other 6.4 are in lawn. My uncle (80 years old) still farms the 5 acres, but does so more as a matter of convinience to me. The TLB will be used to clear rocks from the field and plant windbreaks in the future.

Many thanks to all of you for the great advice and information you've given me over the past years. A special thanks to AKfish and Roy Jackson for your input on this series of tractors. I've also attached a picture of other JD stuff in my barn.

By chance; did the 3pt hardware come with the 1070, too? You've got a pretty impressive stable - parked right in front - of your stable... :D

Thank you all for the nice comments. Yes, the tractor came with the 3 point arms and also the technical manual. I've owned my land for 13 years and built the pole shed 10 years ago. The house came several years later - my wife is a farm girl and thought the shed was every bit as important as a house:thumbsup: The tractors are a 15 year effort in saving and investing for our retirement and enjoyment of the property. After 30 years in the Twin Cities, we escaped back to the country. Another couple years and we can settle into retirement. Should be fun:)

Finally moving out with the rest of us. I couldn't handle living in the city. Love every acre of my land and to be cramped up in a little apartment is just not me. Love my elbow room out here and get so much enjoyment of keeping up my land. Sure you will love it and with that selection of equipment that you have you will be able to tackle every task. Making me jealous!

That 1070 surely is a nice tractor...so is the rest of your stable!!

But what are you going to do with three (3!!!!) mid to large sized CUTs and a ZTR on 11.4 acres?
(Well, if I could afford 'em, reckon I'd have the same thing!)

"But what are you going to do with three (3!!!!) mid to large sized CUTs and a ZTR on 11.4 acres?"

Good question - I've asked myself the same question before bidding on the 1070. Truth be told, I'm not sure I will keep the 1070TLB after my rock picking and tree planting is done. Anyway, my logic for the 1070 goes something like this: For the last year or so I was giving serious thought to getting a backhoe for the 3720. The cost out the door with taxes, plumbing & installation for the 3720 hoe package was only several thousand dollars less than the 1070 package. For those several thousand dollars more, I have the 1070 tractor and the loader.

I bought the 955 from a private party with 75 hours on the clock at the time I was building the storage barn. The 955 came with a lot of the attachments listed in my profile. The 955 is still used for most of the yard chores. One thing the 955 didn't do too well was handle the snow and drifting on my 1/4 mile driveway, especially at 4:00am at -25 degrees so I could get to work before 6:00am to open the shop and offices. Not good seat time. So. . . I bought the 3720 after building the house. I use the 3720 to maintain the driveway in the wiiner and finish mow lawn in the summer. When I bought the 3720 the dealer gave me a killer deal on the ZTR - not much demand for lawn mowers in Minnesota in December. The ZTR is used to maintain about 1 acre of my land which is pretty steep and I just don't feel comfortable on it with a tractor.

There must be a name for this tractor disease:)
