This position is one that was developed over the past few weeks as this plant has reorganized departments.
It is somewhat broad in scope /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif - but mostly right up my alley... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif = Logistics Manager over...
Customer service, shipping/receiving & production scheduling. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I am looking forward to the new learning & challenges, but part of me was expecting to pittle with projects at home up through the end of the year. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

First job in years is a suit. My internal jobs are jeans and polo shirt. The engineers of today are not the white shirts, ties etc...

I love the "Where do you see yourself in 5-years" or why do you want this job. Or the best is "Where or what is your career path".

Last inteview was about 1 month ago, for a Electrical Design Manager and he said why do you want this job? I replied, "I am just a high priced babysitter" for 8-hours per day. We laughed and said how true.

Good luck and put on your happy face and fake smile. Don't forget the BUZZZZZ words!

I hope that I'm not overwhelmed by this position. My position appears to actually be replacing most responsibilities of 2-3 managers. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'll certainly reccomend that "guy that you know" if I end up overwhelmed. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'll be happy to be back to work & hopefully smiling for a while at least. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I'll need to get in tune with all new "buzz words" related to Lean Manufacturing , which seems to be the philosophical phrase of choice around here these days. I've lived through introduction of JIT, TQM, , etc , -may have to take a refresher course at OU just to get up to date on all of them. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

We just advertised an opening for a handyman/maintenance/lab cleaner and it was comical to see what people wore for their interviews. Anything from their cleanest (not neccessarily clean) rock band on tour T-shirt with dirty torn jeans and sandals, to white shirt and tie. The fella that got the job wore clean, new, pressed, traditional khakis that maintenance and janatorial people typically wear. He was also the most qualified, but the young person with no experience and the white shirt and tie was a close second. The biker bimbo who loudly proclaimed she could not work Wednesdays because she HAD to go to anger management classes and couldn't work Fridays, because that was when she had her SUPERVISED visits with her kid, wearing a shirt that exposed her pierced navel and 4 " above it and 4" below it with some bands name on her braless chest came in last. Her do-rag and Marlboro behind her ear didn't add to the image she was putting out there. Glad to hear you got a good job!

Note to those going on interviews, don't volunteer info about your parole officer, court ordered classes, or prior durg problems. If you can't work a day because of a court ordered anger management class, tell the employer that you are taking classes that day. It's the truth, but not so specific that you blow a chance to be considered.

So let me get this straight, you hired a “fella” that interviewed for a handyman/lab cleaner based on what he wore? White shirt and tie for a handyman/lab cleaner interview? Am I missing something here? Man, at my company you are lucky if they speak English never mind the clothes.

Lastly since your company is not flexible you did not hire a “bimbo” as you stated because she has a life outside of work? I passed up jobs since the corporations were not flexible to ME. In today’s workforce, the companies need to be more flexible if they want people to join.

I guess diversity is thrown out the window.

Sounds like some of the people I used to get at interviews. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I always asked each applicant these same questions:

What do you, as an employee, owe to your employer?

and,

What does the employer owe to you, the employee.

One time I had one of those fellows that thought it was alright to wear bib overalls without any shirt and his right off the farm work boots . /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I asked him the first question, and his response was, "nuttin".

After waiting for a short time for some kind of explanation and not receiving any, I moved on to the second question. When I asked him that question, his response was, "Everything. They owe me a good wage, a good work place, no hassles about how I do the job, and time off whenever I want it." /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

You know, to this day, I don't regret not hiring him! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
