Hello,

I am considering starting a lawncare business; and, am looking at available lawn tractors in my area.

I am starting "on a shoestring" so I am looking at used equipment.

I've been told that some of the big named tractors are both expensive to buy and maintain largely because of their name.

I would appreciate any advice.

Before you buy anything, consider the market (look in your local Yellow Pages for lawn care businesses). The market may be saturated.

As far as equipment...and considering your budget (or lack of a budget), try Craigslist for used equipment. Some research on TBN and other sites should provide information on which equipment is reliable and what to stay away from.
Also, consider insurance..you'd be doing commercial work and insurance can be costly.
Another thing is to determine if you need any permits...can be costly fines if you're operating a business without the proper permits or licenses.

Welcome to TBN. You might try your question in a more active area on this forum that are talking about your subject. If your getting into lawn care a good ZT mower is a wise investment. ZT are what you pay for. A nice one with at least a 60" cut will set you back about 7 to 10 grand. - robert
