InvisibleFence brand GPS containment???

A friend with two Alaskan Huskies tried a wired system. After months of trying to train the dogs - he gave up. When stimulated - NOTHING will stop the two dogs. Fortunately, to this day, the dogs will still return home after their brief forays.
Here I have a small Cocker Spaniel. He has learned not to venture out too far, either day or night. His one encounter with coyotes, fortunately, was only a scare but it must be permanently etched. My only fences keep cattle out and the closest neighbor is 4.5 miles distance.

I doubt if that would be the case if they were continually shocked after they escaped. My experience with electricity and dogs tells me that they would probably keep running for the hills trying to escape the pain.

kidr - I concur. If continuously shocked I think they would head for the hills and not return. I have never heard of a system such as this nor had any experience with such a system. I really question the humanity or wisdom of such a system. I doubt that a system such as this would provide beneficial training.

I plan to call them today and ask a few questions.

I doubt that if the dogs get out that it will be a continuous shock until the battery is dead. Rather I would expect maybe 10 seconds or so of correction. And then if they don't return, only intermittent corrections to let them know they are still out of bounds.

Main things I am looking for answers to....

Collars. Waterproof and durable? And battery life?

Is there real-time location I can view, weather on the sender unit or on a computer program or app?

Cost?

Can things be changed in the future? And does that have to be done by a tech?

And what are the stimulation levels? If they are anything like the wireless I had, it just won't work. Dogs barely got a tingle. It needs to be something they don't like.

Will post back when I get some info.

Got some questions answered today.

The run through protection is not like I though. IF a dog leaves the boundary, it will continue to be shocked for a pre-determined time, up to 30 seconds and thats it. IF the dog can tolerate that, then they are out and free and wont get any more shocks until it returns to the safe zone and back out again.

There is no real-time tracking or app or anything

Collar batteries last about 2 days.

Any future changes has to be done by a tech.

Collar stimulation level is high. Can be set to a higher level than my current SD2100 system, which is good

Cost is about $3k

That don't sound like a good deal to me.

$3K does sound a bit steep, but I got quotes between $7K-$9K to put a fence around a section of my property, about 3/4 of an acre, to keep my dog in. It might be a tough choice between ugly fence for $8K or changing batteries every other day. Luckily our dog is older now and doesn't wonder as much and comes when called so we are not going to bother with a fence. Wife wants another dog to keep our present one company when we are at work, that could force me to rethink this.
LD1- I haven't talked to my neighbors yet, but I don't think they would dream of spending $3K to keep a $200 dog contained, especially since the husband hates dogs.

Yea, $3k is a little higher than I was hoping. Since GPS tech is quite affordable now. A wired system is only ~$300. And a good bit of that money is wire and sender unit. So Adding a GPS device in the mix I didnt dream it would make the cost go up 10x's.

I was willing to go somewhere in the $1000 range, or even a bit more. But for 3k, I will burry wire, since I still have my innotek system.
Another BIG reason I was wanting to go GPS was to not have that wire, cause about 4 acres of my property would be farmable with the removal of a fencerow. And was gonna let the farmer that farms the adjacent field farm it as it would be alot less for me to mow. Cannot let him farm if I have wire burried. And really wanted to give the dogs all of the land

We use Havahart wireless. three dogs and it covers about a 5 arce circle. excellent service. Have a more expensive one that you can shape looked into pricey. Have dummy collars made then just move the collars around works slick. then only use wireless to retrain. dogs are mastive, new foundland yellow lab. had wired before this wire would break what a pain, going on 4 years now on this one.

Not sure if you caught it in my first post, but the havahart wireless is what I had after I moved. At the old house was an innotek SD2100.

Only wire issues I had is when I had forgot where I burried it and dug into it. But I did opt for the heavier gauge wire.

Maybe I just got a dud of a system, but the collars barley made my fingers tingle when I crossed the line with it. Once the dogs figured that out, it was game over. You cannot train a do not to do something if there is no punishment. With the wired system, the punishment was a sharp shock. Almost like being bit by an electric fencer. They knew that and nothing was worth the pain of crossing.

I contacted havahart and they are letting me return the system and they will do a full diagnostic to see if something was not right and they are supposed to let me know. But the lack of a strong correction wasnt the only issue. Weather or not that weak correction was sent was very intermitten. Sometimes it would "tingle" and beep, other times nothing at all. And the two collars I had sensed the field at different distances. One of the collars read 10' different than the other, even with the collars side by side.

All in all, the system just confused the heck out of the dogs, and failed to deliver a strong enough correction.
