InvisibleFence brand GPS containment???

I did not find a reference to DogWatch hidden fences when I searched the thread. We use DogWatch DogWatch® Hidden Dog Fences - Home - they are similar to "invisible Fence", but self adjust collar levels if the line is tested too often. We have about 4 acres protected and the cost was about 1/2 what "invisible fence" wanted. The collar battery lasts about a year and you can replace it yourself. We also have their "Big Leash" system of collar and remote - it works great with our Chocolate Lab (this one has an attention problem and needs reminding to listen sometimes). I can call him in even when we can't see each other. Check out the DogWatch site - I highly recommend it !

Not sure how dog watch is any different than the other buried wire fences. Am I missing something.

There are quite a few differences. The DogWatch system adjusts the collar upward if the dog tests the line too often and the warning signal distance to the line is adjustable. The Batteries in the collar last longer and can be replaced by you. The correction level can be adjusted by you without calling DogWatch. DogWatch also has other products (some radio controlled instead of wired).DogWatch is an FM signal instead of AM (like the difference between AM & FM radio). Check out the web site and look at their products. I do not sell or get any benefit from promoting the product (I just believe it is a better system).

They may be a good system, and if I ever find myself in need of another, I may give them a look.

However the purpose of my asking and starting this thread is cause I was trying to find something GOOD that dont require burying wires. I have alot of things I want to do to my property over the next few years, and didnt want to be cutting the line up constantly.

The wired system I had at the old place (and using now with the wire just on top of the ground) has served me very well for the last 8 years.

The things I like:
Waterproof collars
Wireless recharge (just set the collar on top of the sender)
Charge lasts 3-6 monhts
And I can adjust the stim level and field size right from the sender too.

I understand, and the DogWatch system may not meet your needs, but others that read the thread might find it will meet their needs. I have places where the wire is across a stream and 6' off the ground - with the distance to warning set at 6' our Lab avoids the area. For anyone with a need to avoid hitting buried wire, leaving it on the ground and lifting the wire to work might be a solution ??
The DogWatch collars are waterproof also. Our installer used 12Ga solid core wire that is quite durable.

While I'll admit, I never heard of dog watch, it does sound like a decent system.

I have a 2500' spool of 16ga stranded wire that I will bury around ~5ac of property once I get done working. Got a driveway to cut in for a polebarn, and plan on re-working a pond. I want to bury the wire around the pond to give dogs access to it, but dont want to cut it up when doing so. So for the time being, it is just laid on top of the ground (and through the culvert at the end of the drive). It is obviously going to be an issue come mowing time.

Some things I find important in a burried fence: Waterproof, and battery life. Both are great on the innotek 2100 system I have. And the field width (distance from wire they get correction) at max is about 15' from the wire. So there is a 30' zone they would have to run through. Which dont happen. With stim level at max, You can actually see the corection in the dogs neck muscles. They dont test the system cause they dont like it.

Just wish there was a good alternative to burying a wire. I was pretty disappointed that the GPS things were $3k+. As cheap as all other GPS stuff is.

And the wireless ones just dont work. I was a bit disappointed in the havahart, that they did refund me on. But did ask them to let me know what was wrong with it for my own curiosity. All they said was that the audible tone in one of the collars was bad. But I think there was more to it than that. The highest level of correction with my fingers on the probe was only like a half-dead 9v battery on the tongue (as I said before). Just not enough for them to even feel it. While trying to retrain the dogs on the system for the umteenth time, The dog was standing where she should be getting shocked. collar beeping and all. She just sat down and started wagging her tail. She felt nothing:mur:

And that was the highest rated wireless system I could find.

PS, what was the cost of that dog watch system? I think the innotek I got 8 years ago was ~300 bucks with 500' wire and 2 collars.

"Once the dog starts chasing something it wont stop". It does once it hits the woven wire fence. Now add the invisible fence to the wire fence?

I dont like fence.

Cost alot more to give the dogs the area they need, more to mow/trim around, Limits MY access through out, looks like crap, And would need to be 6' high.

Then the dogs can still dig under if they wish

I don't know what the cost would be for just the unit and collars. We had it installed around about 4 acres including our pond. it is quite hilly and some through Laurel and woods. Our cost was around $1500 including the Big Leash remote and collar. Invisible Fence wanted $3500 to do the same job and they would have needed to come out anytime you wanted any adjustment or battery replaced.
