Some love it and some don't.
I get that.

I appreciate the desire to save the idiot before he drives off the cliff. :drink:

I have at least 2 years to reverse course.
In the meantime, I will be looking into every aspect of this.

Right now, I will also be looking at what equipment I will need, how to plan it, price it, and fix it.

Oosik, Alaska is not the same as we knew and loved. We seem to be in first place for everything bad. #1 for Domestic Abuse, #1 for Sexually Transmitted Disease, #1 for poor test scores of our children. The list is endless and gets worse each year. Crime is rampant in Anchorage and the Mat-Su and the State Legislature passed a Catch and Release Law that puts the criminals back out on the street almost immediately. Alaska was a Gem and now is fast becoming a Turd.

I am worried about the crime.
Gathering people coming up to live off the dole?

High unemployment will lead to that too.

Yes, the unemployment rate here is ridiculously high and we've been in a recession for at least 10 years. Hopefully, things will begin to improve soon.

They contribute most of the crime to rampant drug use but I don't see that changing any time soon. No teeth in the laws anymore. After 55 years here, even I am becoming disenfranchised. Sad.

Sounds like Iowa a few years ago. Meth addicts.
Life is boring for some here.

The pseudoephedrine over the counter ban help greatly.

I sure am glad I got to be there when it was good. Arrived in 1960- said goodby in 1982. Those who may come to Alaska thinking they can live off their share of the Permanent Fund will be the ones that starve or are standing on 4th avenue with their hand out. Sawyer Rob said it best - get the biggest truck you can find - stuff it full of money - then consider making the trip to Alaska.

Doofy - that is such a sad commentary. When we lived in Alaska - Ketchikan, Juneau, Glennallen then Anchorage - the ONLY time we ever locked the door to our house would be when we were going outside for a trip. Crime was so rare as to be almost non-existent. No - I've got to take that back - alcoholism was the problem and most generally led to any crime.

People always ask - "Why don't you go back and visit the old places you knew so well?" I just have no desire to see what has happened and would rather live with my memories of past times and fantastic adventures.

So, there is a New Holland dealer in Fairbanks now.
Delta Industrial Services. Main office is in Delta Junction.
But parts pick-up, repairs, and purchasing has to be done at the Fairbanks location :(
Curt Dufendach has been pretty good at responding to my emails.

I used Dave's Tractor in Wasilla for my LS purchase. Good guy!

I've never had any problems here but the criminal element knows we are armed to the teeth and not afraid to defend ourselves. Booze is still the same scourge as ever.

High fuel costs, cost of electricity and high transportation costs for goods and services has always been a deterrent to any growth. Our town is slowing dying because of it.

Hopefully, very hopeful, the natural gas line goes through.
Supposed to have at least 5 outlets for Alaskan uses.
The cost for heating and electric will go down dramatically...I hope.

You have no idea how convenient that is here. Natural gas is so cheap here.
My furnace, water heater, stove/oven, and now the dryer all run on it. Highest gas bill last winter when we were 20 below for 2 - 3 weeks was $80

Now electricity...our electric is about 17 cent kwh. Not far behind yours. Thanks to the freaking windmill farms here.

When we finally settled down in Anchorage - 1965 - our new home, like everybody else, was heated with natural gas. It was dirt cheap. Electricity was 26.7 cents per Kwh.
