there r still a few of us young guys doing it. Im 25 and just quit last year because my grandpa wanted me to take the farm over so i did i loved taking a block of steel and turning it into something. but you guys are right more and more companys are leaving state side

It's not just manufacturing, try and find a good tool and die person. When (if?) you find one, odds are he will be about 55 years old. What you gonna do in 10 years? Ship out a hand sketched drawing to India?

Back in the 70s I used to work in a metal stamping plant that had its own tool & die shop, about 60 employees.
Now they still run the presses, but all the tooling is done in china.
It takes them 3 - 4 try's to get it right, but I guess it's cheaper that way.

No retirement pay
No vacation pay
No workman's comp
No social security
No Union strikes

Our kids are going to have a mess on their hands sooner than later.
