Is a tooth bar a good add on?

Wonder if adding a toothbar might affect the warranty of the tractor

The dealer ordered and installed my tooth bar on my new tractor so I doubt it.

The downside is I can no longer 'backgrade' with the FEL unless I remouve the toothbar.
Maybe I'll devise something to work around that such as perhaps welding a 3" X 3" 3/8 angle to the rear bottom of my bucket. Will ponder that idea a bit!

I bought the W.R. Long flat tooth bar. This design allows back grading.

Toothbars allow you to work much quicker with harder soils and rocks. I'm sure there are stituations were the work wouldn't be possible without one. I was able to did into lightly frozen ground a couple of weeks back that I would not have bothered trying with a bare bucket. As for back dragging, use the heel of the bucket. Does same job and is less stressful.

I presume that means yours is bolted on, not welded. It takes me 2-3 minutes to get mine on or off. Just curious, as it sounds like you have some difficulty with yours.

I bought a Markham, based upon recommendations here, 3 1/2 yrs ago for my 7510. It has been invaluable
for brush work, digging dirt and especially rocks/bolders for my stone walls.
I will get another one when I upgrade my tractor to one with a BH.
regards,
Steve

I would have to say its a great addition to any tractor. I've even picked up brush piles with a little finessing. Dug out stumps, thatched grassy areas. I take it off for winter and snow work. I going to try it in the snow, just tilting the bucket up a little more.

Yes that design would work, maybe I'll modify mine to that configuration by adding a bottom flat plate. (mine is home made).

AS someone else mentioned, backgrading with the heel also works but that wears down the bottom of the bucket which is not hardened as the cutting edge is.
Hence my comment of adding an angle or some other wear element to the heel of my bucket.

My soil is heavily rock imbedded and as well I often backgrade my gravel drives.
