Well, I take delivery of this Monday, I'll bet this doesn't overheat bushhogging!
The PT can sit on site broke down, while I ride around in air conditioning. :)

I ran it 8 hours straight yesterday bushoggong..with a high of 95....it never went close to overheaing.

The PT just does not have adequate cooling...or just can't pull the bush hog they have on it.
My starter solenoid came in, so at least maybe I can get it cranked, and do the steep slopes.

Re: your starter solenoid.
When you jump directly to the solenoid from the battery, does it pull in?
As suggested above, I'll probably get a relay to increase voltage at the solenoid, but before replacing the battery yesterday, I did notice only 11 volts on the meter when hot with the fan running. I haven't had it miss since the battery replacement, but didn't use it much, either.

FWIW, I've been having a similar problem with my 1845. Increasingly, the solenoid won't pull in when I go to start up. I'm suspecting (based on one successful start with a jumper across it) a high resistance in the neutral switch but haven't gotten around to diagnosing it yet. I just jump from the hot lug on the starter to the solenoid with a short jumper wire or screwdriver and be on my way. At least I know my solenoid is ok (I thought maybe the aftermarket replacement solenoid (from fire rebuild) had died.

A clue, perhaps. John: I don't remember, do you have the seat safety switch?
Increased resistance in either, or, for that matter, in the starter switch, would reduce solenoid voltage. As suggested, a heavy-duty relay between the hot pole and the solenoid, right at the starter, might prevent the other ailment(s) from stopping us until complete failure open in the starting circuit: when trouble shooting would be much easier.

Starter problems.

Almost a year ago, I had similar starting problems on my 1445. Replaced the ignition switch, checked out the neutral switch, cleaned battery terminals. Replaced battery. When I selected start, the starter would try and motor , or just barely turn. I fixed my problem with a new wire going from the start terminal on the ignition switch to the start terminal on the starter. I haven't had any problem with the starter since.

I got it going again..it was the solenoid on the starter, I'd love to know why it fried.

You can get some A/C in that PT also when you get the bugs worked out. These guys in Barkhamsted don"t mention all the problems some have.

OK, I sent the town an email to get me in touch with Chris Zern (the guy mowing the dam).

I need to get the PT straightened out, even the big JD is too slow in the rough stuff.
