Gee Bird, I thought it was just me who thought that way!

Well, I don't know if I'm considered good company or not but I was also blaming Comcast too! I am always suspicious of new companies, especially since my email that was supposed to forward doesn't. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Actually, I've had Comcast cable access at home for a year now, and it's been very reliable... more so than Time Warner back in NY. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I'm sure service can vary depending on your area, though.

Huh? Now I know far less about computers than even Bird, but I do know that I have a 512 mb thing in my old laptop. They're tiny little suckers that just plug in. Cost about $50.

What kind of peashooter do we all live on here--here in our TBN universe. I had visions of airplane hangers full of StarTrekian computer banks powered by dilithium crystals, all glowing eerily with the reflected light of incinerating mountains.

Sheesh, make sure you let us know when the mighty Impossible Mission Company gets a Model T company car and electricity.

Yes, it's a magical world, these server things. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You may be confusing random access memory (RAM) with hard drive size. A very common mistake. Believe me, there are very, very few old laptops with 512MB of RAM. That would be a huge amount of RAM for a current laptop. A 512MB hard drive was common though. I'm not sure the RAM will really help that much, might want to go to a dual CPU motherboard with a couple of SCSI Seagate Cheetahs@ 15,000 rpm. I run that at home and it flat out flys. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Dual P3 1.3Ghz.

512 mb is no big deal these days in a laptop. I just bought a new Dell and on the better units 512mb is standard with up to 2 gigs of RAM available for extra $$ in the high end laptops. The same is true for Gateway, Sony, Compaq or any of the others.

You get 256 mb in anything but the budget laptops now with an option to go to 512mb for an extra $100. You can get a laptop with 512 mb of ram in the sub $1000 range so I am suprised the server that handles this site only had 512 mb of ram. Sounds kinda skimpy with the cheaper than dirt prices of RAM these days.

I bet the motherboard will only accept 1.5Gb. That is the max for most "consumer" boards. An honest to gawd server board will have more than three memory slots and be able to take densities higher than 512Mb Dimms. Four or Eight GB of RAM is not unheard of in a server these days. Yep, the new laptops commonly have HUGE amounts of RAM these days. ..not so for the olde tyme laptops...@ 70 bucks for a 512 stick, why not? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

70 bucks for a 512 stick, why not?

Talk about supply and demand, when things were booming they raked ya' over the coals for the stuff!

Now I know they can produce it cheaper these days, but not enough to warrant those price drops in only a couple of years. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

What does Comcast and a NEW company have in common? Nothing. Comcast has been around for a LONG time.

BTW, I have Comcast and it works flawlessly.

I don't know if this site is slow but I do know I am getting very slow.
