Really, all I think it would take is a hydraulic roll mechanism with a flat plate on each end. The plate closest to the tractor would be a quick attach female plate and the plate away from the tractor would be a male quick attach mechanism, complete with hydraulic locking cylinder. That would be a complete, hydraulic roll unit.

Yup, But the devil is in the details. Much cheaper / easier to play around on the computer/paper than be cutting metal 6X to get it to fit

As long as I'm dreaming, how about an inexpensive DC
gearmotor (from surplus outlet)working the threaded rod
that gives us our small angle deflection(+/-) through a dash mounted dp3t switch (spring centered-off)
similar to a "trim" switch on an outboard motor. It's a 2-wire
hook up while attaching implement...Electrics are my comfort level while I know there is a Hydraulic "solution" here too (Charlie).

That would work. I see from your profile why electics are your comfort level. From an engineering standpoint electric actuaters are generally used when you don't have hydraulics available. The are also used in applications where high precision is required but those ones are expensive. Once you've experienced the hydraulics a little bit, you'll never look back.

MossRoad & Hazmat:
I think the roll adapter could work fine with manual dogs to lock it to the implement, rather than installing another set of hydraulics, but would be more elegant if you first used the hydraulics to lock to the tractor, then move them and use them to lock to the attachment, then move them a second time to hook to the roll cylinder. (The latter could be one of the small cylinders now used to lock the dogs into the adapter plates, or similar size.)
Sounds like it's almost built, right?

You guys got it! If you need any pictures of anything, let me know. I am at home this afternoon. Kids have a half day and grandma is sick. Fortunately, the company I work for is very understanding and family oriented.

Well, I got to say guys, the synergy here has worked again...

Now, just hold those thoughts till I get my "Nice Green Lawn Machine" home(still several weeks away).

bmkar,

This thread epitomizes why I periodically check in with TBN and this forum specifically. What a great exchange of ideas! In the spirit of giving thanks, I hereby express gratitude to you, hazmat, charlie et al for stimulating our gear thinking.

It sounds like most details are nailed....I vote for the cheek to cheek installation hard welded to the attach system (tractor side) with a small cylinder and dedicated hydraulics (option 1?). I doubt the 3" extension with as big a rotator pipe as 3" will result in measurable loss of lifting power. While I can imagine tiimes when I wouldn't need or use it, I can't foresee a situation where side to side roll would be an unwelcome option.

Now, two questions remain...where will we put that extra toggle button and can you make it float within, say, five degrees? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Oh, man... If you want it "on" full time, there is a company that makes a 5 button handle for the joystick. They also make the valves. Starts around $500.00 and goes up.

It would be kind of neat to be able to roll side to side not only a blade for grading, but the bucket, forks, mowers, etc... We could probably get away with $1000.00 a pop. Put profits back into R&D or a big party /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I am looking for an "inexpensive" DC gearmotor.Where does one actually find one, and define "inexpensive". I need one for my ATV 3 pt. setup. Fast to get to the job, and fast to get back. Max time (Playing), working on job.

Re: larger, taller tires on a 400???

Charlie,
I am trying to get more ground clearance under a 422. I dont want to have to move the motors lower. You have seen both machines (1400) and was wondering what your thoughts would be on taller tires? Robert
