is it possisble to reverse the direction of my PFD 88 flail mower ?

I am not familiar with that mower so I sent those pictures to John, who has a lot of knowledge about Sicma products.
Here is what he said:

"It looks like a Sicma. Maybe 6-10 years old.
The rear roller is missing.
We never sold a flail with a wheel kit. I think Buy Smart offered this kit but machine looks heavily modified.
I don’t’ doubt it cuts poorly with the blades he is using. There should be two per hanger. The blades he is using are unsuitable for this application. They will float to one side and not cut evenly."

Facing the rear of the tractor, which way does the PTO shaft spin?
CW or CCW?

Does your CUB PTO shaft turn counter clockwise. I believe it does as some people have been putting PTO reversers on the tractors in order to run other attachments.

That model is a US market machine and new enough that it should be standard rotation.

Here is a picture of a reverser.

Notice it has a single gear reduction, so the speed and direction will change.

this is right out of the crate August 2011, the only reason i changed from the Y cutters to one peice solid cutter was my attempt to improve its cut. The Roller is in my shop the bearings went out on it with just 4 months of use so i decided to try and use gauge wheels i know they will last longer. its to hard to find parts when there is no way to look at parts break down pictures of this unit. I then got a machine shop to make a tail wheel system for me. I can still put the roller on in the full up position.


I short im just trying to make this mower work and leave a nice cut. It mows great in reverse only. even with the new blades.

All else being possibly correct. Is your forward tractor ground speed too fast for the grass density? Driving too fast will give a uneven cut. When driving backward are you going slower?

It should be forward rotation with the drive on the left. Maybe the cutter shaft is turning too slow and that's why they discontinued that model? I still think for grass the Y blades will do a superior job to the scoop blades. I know on a Mott/Alamo it is imperative you don't operate under 540 PTO RPM or the knives will stretch. What does your manual say?

If it's mowing really well in reverse, then I think you really have the blades backwards.
Try turning them around and see what happens. Turn half of them and see if there's
any improvement.
