Did you say you bought this brand new in 2011 at everything attachments?

From everything I've read on here, they have great customer service and are always helpful when a problem arrises. You may wanna try calling them and notifying them that there has been a problem with their product from day one, and your not happy with it. I imagine they'd do something to help you figure it out, maybe even sell you a new model at cost or something?

You could then sell yours to recoup some of your loss?

Well I did call, trying to solve my gear box questions in trying to find a way to reverse it. But they sale so much equipment that the sales people don't seem to have good knowledge of their specific flail mowers to be able to trouble shoot with me over the phone, after all they probley just sell the stuff they might not accually use their products. And it seems that no matter what type of equipment problems Im having the person on the phone has never seen or heard of it before.

Yes I was surprised to read that the model I bought new in august 2011, Is a 6 year old design not being sold anymore.

This mower is accually very heavy in design "thick gage steel" if the blades could be reversed I believe it would work great. But I due wish I could have a "due over" and go back in time and buy a different type of flail mower from Everythig attachments.

Take a look inside the gear box, see if it has provision on the output shaft to move the driven gear to the opposite side of the pinion gear. That appears to be a fairly universal style box that could be used for several different use applications. It is not uncommon for gear box suppliers to use a common shaft that will allow them to put the gear on either side to change rotation direction without having to make different shafts.
If it's possible, moving the gear would be a lot simpler than moving the belt drive and turning drum end for end.

Now that's a great idea.

With the knives in the right direction for the rotation, whether forward or reverse, a flail mower should still leave a pretty nice cut. I would get on Everything Attachments case until I got a definitive answer. There's obviously a reason this model was discontinued. You paid good money for a machine that isn't working as advertised. The manufacturer should be trying to help you in every way they can. Maybe the knives are too far apart or they calculated the speed wrong, etc., I don't know but the Mott/Alamo flails have been basically the same for around 50 years! That's why so many companies copied their flail in the first place.
