Is my new tractor damaged?

Give him some tractor driving lessons and both he and the tractor will be better off.

No matter how I am using my HST or how I plan to use it next I always park it with the Range selector in Low and 2wd. I also don't engage the **** parking brake. If it had a light or alarm I would, but I have left it on myself enough to have learned better. Box blade and loader down though.

As a child I can confess (now) to having driven the tractor around a bit. There werent any keys in those days:)

Not familiar with the MX5100 but if it is like a 40 or 60 series, the ECU senses engine speed and pump pressure and destrokes the pump while maintaining engine speed. Unless something unusual happens the HP reliefs only prevent damaging spikes when the swash plate cannot react quickly enough. Climbing a steep hill in H, for example, will result in the engine maintaining speed while the swash plate destrokes and if steep enough, will come to a stop. Lesser hydros do send the oil over relief creating heat but will also drag down the engine. Your description of acting like a clutch is slipping sounds very much like a pump destroking because you demand more power, the engine maintains speed, but the machine slows. The ECU on the 40 and 60 will also shift the motor down to low speed to maintain engine speed if required. If you have a workshop manual for your tractor there are extensive explanations of this operation under the transmission section. Once again my book only covers my 40 and I assume the 60 is similar, but the MX5100 being an economy version may have a simpler control.

I sold my keyless tractor shortly before I got the Kioti. They were a pain in the wrist IF the timing was set too high.

I park mine with the PTO engaged. That way someone who isn't familiar with these tractors can't start it.

Thanks for the replies, I feel better now. Don't worry, keys are hidden and he got a tongue lashing.

I think you should keep both sets of keys in your pocket. End of problem.

Great idea but that puts the burden on you and you aren't the problem. The boy is.

He's not mature enough since he already made a series of bad decisions and poor judgment. While he didn't hurt the tractor, his lack of maturity, inexperience and poor judgment could, on a bad day, just as easily get him killed. No tractor for you (right now).

That's a great security feature that I never thought of. It's my new go-to plan to aid security.
