Is my trailer big enough?

( Orangejunk ..my 2 cents would be to sell the current trailer and upgrade to a tandem w/brakes. Like other members said they are rather cheap and once you have it you'll find plenty of use for it. I'd be lost without mine ... Scozz )

I'll concur with others on getting a bigger trailer but personally wouldn't sell the 5x10. I traded my 6x12 when I got the 6.5x18 and I really miss the 6x12. All too often the big trailer is overkill for my hauling needs. The 5x10 is also a good size for pulling around behind the tractor to get things done.

I would think that the smallest trailer you good get away with is a 14 footer. The BX23 weighs in about 2700# so I would think we are pushing that trailer to the max. If you had a 3500# axle you might be ok, but a tandem is the way to go here if you can afford it.

Well I picked up my new BX23 today. Since everyone seems interested in prices I paid $15,500. The dealer stated over the phone that when I arrived he would help me fit the tractor to either a 12 or even better to a 14 foot trailer. However, he stated that the single axle would be fine. Well this was disapointing since my current trailer is a single with a 3500 pound axle. When I arrived we backed the BX23 onto my 5 by 10 and it looked like it was made for it. The backhoe turned to the side and laid on the rail and the FEL lapped over and rested on the one piece ramp. We went for a ride and I must say that truck-wise you did'nt even know it was back there except for starting off. I did some wiggle tests and tried hard brakeing and everything seemed fine. The dealer said that hae has sold dozens and dozens of BX23's on 3500 singles - just no a 10 footer. The ride home was about 60 miles at highway speeds and maybe out of ignorance I felt the trailer was adequate. Once home, I went crazy and did about $1000 worth of work. Or maybe it was $50 in work and $950 in fun.

Congratulations on your new BX23! As a relative newcomer to tractors and TBN myself, I have to warn you, "they" demand pictures of all new tractors, attachments, customizations, etc here at TBN. Hopefully they'll cut you some slack and an angry mob won't show up on your doorstep.....this time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif!

I did not get a mower. Just the tractor as it comes with FEL and backhoe. I did get a free hat and key ring. Sorry if this thread is straying from safety concerns.

I haul a bx on a 6x14 single axle with no trouble. My trailer dealer explained it like this. Single axle is rated for 3500 lbs and will haul it safely, but he has to rate my trailer at 2990lbs because the state requires brake on anything over 3000lbs.With the wieght of your tractor I think you are safe. The factory specified shipping weight on my BX22 Certificate of Origin is 2,530 pounds. The G.V.W.R. (whatever that means) is also 2,530 pounds. I doubt that there is much difference between the weight of the BX22 and the BX23.
