Is NH SuperSteer really "super"??

Re: Is NH SuperSteer really \"super\"??

In my experience, most of the owners who have supersteer are on the whole happy with it, and most of those who do not have it are also happy... and see no use for supersteer. What it boils down to is that you get used to whatever you have, and learn to use it effectively.

I put myself in the "don't have it, don't need it" category... but then I don't do finish mowing with mine.

If you are not convinced that SuperSteer is for you then I might suggest saving the extra bucks. You may decide that you need an extra implement or two down the road.

How does the ss do on really hilly ground? Stability?

Re: Is NH SuperSteer really \"super\"??

Slippy while I wouldn't want to be on any steep hill with a loaded bucket and a fully articulated SS axle if you use caution on slopes you shouldn't have a problem. Additional weight on the back of the tractor whether filled tires or in our case 950 pounds of cast iron really makes for a more stable tractor and if you felt the need you could also dish the rear rims out to give you a wider stance also increasing stability.

Re: Is NH SuperSteer really \"super\"??

I have a "non" SS TC35. I am VERY happy with the tight turning radius of the tractor. I vote for putting the $1,400 into a new implement (or two). A rake and box blade sound good!
SS or not, they are nice tractors that manuever well.

Re: Is NH SuperSteer really \"super\"??

Depends on what your going to use the Tractor for. Sounds like if your going to be in the woods & want maneuverability to get around those pesky trees that keep getting in the way...then SS is totally the way to go. I still remember when I first got my machine.....hay loft was in the way so had no option but to try & squezze Tractor onto other side of barn opposite to where the door was. Well I did'nt think there was any way I was going to be able to do it. NO PROBLEM. The Tractor almost moved sideways...its insane. Not sure how you put the paces through the SS & non-SS at the Dealership, but unless you actuall try & get into & out of a tight spot, you won't feel / see the difference.

I also would not hesitate to buy this option if I had the choice either way.

Re: Is NH SuperSteer really \"super\"??

I am thinking about getting a compact tractor. Main uses hauling firewood out of woods, skidding fw logs, mowing woods trails, mow field edge, fel firewood into trailer, blow snow. 166a, 143 is woods. Manouverability very important on narrow trails. Terrain is variable; machine has to pull some weight across creek and up the hill.
Zak, your comment sounds positive for this use. Anyone else have any advice as to suitability of supersteer for this type of application? Sooner or later I'll hit a stump or rock. Thnx

Re: Is NH SuperSteer really \"super\"??

I now have a ss and I can tell you it is great for tight places. Not yet given it a work out, but it will turn on a dime. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
