My CG2310 was delivered today (and my grin is now permanent), but I have a question that is not referenced in the book.

The stabilizer backhoe feet (photo attached, hopefully), have a rubber pad on one side, which is nice because I can use the backhoe near the driveway without tearing it up, and they look like they can be reversed for those times I'm working in the woods.

Looking at the picture you can see a pin on the right that could also go through any of the 4 holes, but it seems that no matter where I place the pin, it still tries to spin around.

So I'm wondering if these really are reversible, and if so, what's the trick?

Thanks,
Jay

Is it not pull pin, rotate 180 degrees, reinsert pin?

One would think so, but pin doesn't really hold the foot in place, that's more of a gravity thing, and the weight of one side causes it to flip back to a point where the pin rests on the hydraulic cylinder, which just doesn't seem quite right.

If I stand off to the side and lower the foot while standing on the ground, I can keep the pointed side down, but then when I lift up the stabilizers they flip back and I'd have to repeat that process every time I wanted to use them, which makes no sense.

Maybe my mind is just foggy from a day of pure fun, and minimal permanent lawn damage, but I don't get it.

I think ray is right. Hi,jay, your dealer must like you to give you rubber pads on your machine, those cost extra. plowking

Pull the pin flip it over and reinsert the pin, (looks like in the same hole). Then, it will not be able to flip to where the rubber is down?

Sounds entirely like what I would have expected, but as you can see from these pictures, there is a metal plate at the bottom of the rubber side that in the first picture is resting agains the base of where the hydraulic hose attaches.

Taking the pin out and flipping the foot, you can see in the next 2 pictures that the plate is now at the top and causes the foot to flip on its side rather than with the pointed sides down.

...it's always the simple things that cause me the most challenge.

My guess is that it works without the optional rubber pads bolted on?

I'll give that a try and see what happens. It just looks like something that would be so cool if it would just flip around so I didn't have to mess with taking the rubber insert on and off.

I can see that getting the hang of the backhoe controls will take some time. I sure have a new respect and admiration for those of you who can make this look so smooth and easy, because it isn't.

Yet.

Its easier to operate smoothly on a full size machine. But, the 2310 is capable of very smooth operation for a subcompact.

It does not take too long for most operators to become "capable."

Start out with the throttle set in the lower half of the rpm range and increase it as you get the "'hang" of it. When you can run the hoe at full throttle smoothly, (and get it to do what you wanted it to do), your ready for you union card.

A good exercise is to glue a banana to a board and practice peeling it. And then close it back up. :D

Did you try to move the pin into the set of holes on the opposite side. This would keep the pad from flipping. I am sure there is a way to do it. You will probably say DOH! when you figure it out.
