Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

Hoping the RAM REV does well (if and when released), and should- if the specs hold up and it ends up being reliableView attachment 4375314.
As far as I know, the all electric Ram Rev was cancelled a couple months ago. E-Rev is going forward, but that’s a hybrid ..gasoline engine, electric., so not the same category as the Cyber truck.
I could be wrong, so correct me if things have changed again

All electric is still cancelled afaik, and yes I was linking the Extended range plug in hybrid.

Those numbers look good to me and yeah even owning an all electric model Y I still don't think ANY full EV is ready for the truck market, not a good fit for towing heavy long distance.

An extended range plug in hybrid like the EREV Oh yeah, maybe once our Rams Cummins wear out... but that may be Quite a while.

Usually nearly twice the price of the ICE they're replacing, in other brands and models. BEV's are much cheaper to manufacture than any equivalent PHEV.

Nah, the cost of a hybrid Honda CRV was only about $4K more than a ICE when we bought one in 2022.

I'd buy a gas hybrid F250 if it could tow 10K when I need it, and run on battery when I don't need the extra oomph.

PHEV, or just HEV? If not a big difference in price, I'd be surprised, as that hasn't been my experience.

One I remember test-driving back in 2020 was the Volvo V60, which was $40k nicely equipped in ICE with the 2.5T, and $78k similarly-equipped in PHEV.

Of course the PHEV made gobs more torque and horsepower, but being a Volvo wagon, I'm not sure how much their primary customer base even cares about that. Last time we bought a "hot" Volvo wagon with their highest-performance package (2010), we had to special order it, since they're so unpopular that no dealer on the east coast ever stocked them.

I guess it depends on the car and how they are equipped but on the Ford website, the conventional Escape starts at $30,000 and the plug in hybrid starts at $35,000.

Never quite that bad, but I'm not towing 11k lb., either. I never tow real heavy over a long enough distance to get a great gauge on mileage, but I'd bet it's probably pulling around 8 mpg at 7k on the hitch, depending on how tall the load is (wind resistance). I have the larger tank they put in the Outdoorsman models, something like 36 gallons, so that still gives me pretty decent range.

I average 14 mpg unloaded, just running around our usual country roads, with my immature love of hard acceleration and loud exhaust.
You use your truck like a truck but where the EV shines is when it's not used as a truck.
I have a towing hitch on my Tesla Y. For sheets and grins I rented a 5x8 U-haul trailer and towed it about 200 miles. I was hauling a new oven I bought (~240 lbs).
My range went from about 300 miles to about 105 miles. Having to drop the trailer to charge was no fun.
I bought the hitch for a bike rack. I will only tow again if it's local.

Ford sells over 800,000 pickup trucks a year in the US
GM sells over 1,000,000 pickup trucks a year in the US
Tesla sold 5,385 units sold in the third quarter of 2025
How many of those numbers are for fleet?

I was given a Cyber Truck, I would immediately give it to a charity to resell. At least then, it would have some value.
No, you would sell it to at a steep discount. ;)

Until you own a Tesla you can't understand the value it provides. I have Full self driving and it has reduced my hatred of driving in traffic. No other EV approaches Tesla's technology. I will buy nothing but a Tesla from now on.

"The Tesla Cybertruck's towing range is significantly reduced, with real-world tests showing a realistic range of approximately 68 to 115 miles using about 75% of the battery, depending on factors like load, speed, and terrain. With a maximum tow capacity of 11,000 lbs, the range can drop to as low as 68 miles."

I wouldn't want one if they were free...seriously!
If you have a job that requires significant towing, like WinterDeere, you wouldn't buy an EV truck so your points are irrelevant.
Most people who own a truck, rarely use it for towing or hauling.
Maybe test drive a Tesla so you can educate yourself and not sound ignorant.
