Mid-compact utility tractor... can we call it a MUT?
Yes...............MUT

Mahindra Underpowered Tractor

With a 16HO PTO..........might as well stay on the porch and let the big dogs play.

That's the same as our B7500 (21 engine, 16 PTO) and it gets along very well. Struggles pushing a 60" deck in heavy weeds or grass, but it will out-mow the BX2660 in light/short grass (higher ground speed) and it runs out of traction before it runs out of power for loader or ground engaging work.

Dunno what to say to you my friend, except that a Farmall Cub would outpull most every low HP tractor on the market today............and I think most of them only had 10 to 12 drawbar HP.

The only point I'm making(and I think 94bullit is also), is that Mahindra used their old design, added an engine with a higher HP rating........then changed it from a CUT to a SUBCUT.

Going by the specs of all other subcuts on the market, Mahindra has the least PTO HP at the highest price. Granted they have the highest capacity of payload for the FEL though.............but then one needs to bring into the equation of stability..........weight of machine/ load/width..............I'm skeptical

While the Mahindra's 50 inch width beats Kubota's 44 inch by a large margin...........I gotta consider my 48 inch as opposed to Mahindra's 50 inch. And I'm sorry, with that much difference in lift capacity.........and only 2 inches in width...........I just don't see the 'operator safety' factored in here.

Maybe I'm way off base here................but I've had my Massey(with a much lower lift capacity than the Mahindra Max)in positions that a heavier weight on the FEL could have killed me!

Don,
I agree with you about high fel capacities can be dangerous in some cases. Same with the three point hitch capacity it is easy to have a higher rating than the tractor can deal with in the real world.

I've heard of people putting 5 foot implements on those Mahindra Max tractors. I'm unsure of the wisdom of this approach, given the 16HP PTO, and the light weight of the tractor.

That's a fair point, Don, especially when you consider there must be many first time owners with little to no experience who are buying these small tractors.

That is predominately what I've seen.

Why would that be a problem? Underpowered, yes, but dangerous? Its almost the same size (4" longer) and weight (~100# lighter) as a B2630...
As for width, five foot what? We run a 5 foot tiller behind our B7500 and as long as you go slow, its fine. We also (on occasion) run a 5' bush hog behind it. Have to have the loader on with the bush hog (for front counterweight) but it does good as long as you pay attention to the engine and dont let it lug (unlike the L3830 which cuts passably well with the same cutter at ~11 MPH in 12" grass and weeds).
Would I buy it with PTO work in mind? No, but if you going to do mostly loader work and little or no heavy PTO work, it should work fine.
