Is the weather weird this year or what?

Lucky dog!
Our soil/clay is too wet to work right now... I'd love to be out clearing fence rows today... maybe I'll be able to grade the driveway, but that's about it. Can't even take the tractor in the barnyard to clean manure. Still have to use a wheelbarrow.

The strong warm winds last week dried our soil from flooding on December 1 (pic 1&2) to dry conditions this week (pic 3 w/o trees and a lot of firewood) in other picture. Now I am without playing with boxblade and ratchet rake. Have to go up north (Kalkaska) and play in the woods pretty soon. They still had snow two days ago from that March storm of 18"s.

The weather is definitely a bit unusual this year.

Today I mowed grass for the first time this year, but it's the middle of March, and I shouldn't need to mow for at least another month. Come to think of it, I don't recall ever needing to mow the grass in March.

4 inches of snow a few days ago and had to clear the driveway where the plow blockead us in. We hardly ever get snow in March. Warm rain about 2 days ago, probably over an inch with temps in the 40's and the snow was gone.

Snowed this morning, but didn't stick.

Forecast is for some snow overnight tonight, but it may not stick either.

You guys in the midwest and northeast can have this snow stuff. OTOH, we get too much rain also. If it weren't for the family being nuts and liking it here, I'd move. Don't know where, but it would be warmer and drier.

The plus side to the much warmer weather we have only used about 2 1/2 tons of wood pellets to heat with this year verses 3-4 ton in a colder winter.Grass is starting to geen up,I bet we might be mowing grass in a couple of weeks.coobie

been having our spring thunderstorms (one going on now) Thursday was 75 & nice went to farm to work on broken car decided to get in a walk into the woods first and halfway out started hearing thunder. So well figured I had time it was getting closer faster so headed back to barn (car was outside of barn on the pad) by time I got back a few drops were coming in so I figured I would wait it out. 5 min later it was pouring and then pea sized hail then marble & aggit sized stuff and a few close to golf ball and most all was over superball size stuff... It kept up the hail for 5+ min leaving ground fully covered and the sun was out before it stopped hailing. only some damage knocked off a lot of the loose paint and broke a wiper clip on car off. all weekend has been in mid 70s... Wednesday was driving old ford truck to work started sprinkling on way out door then raining & pouring. Wipers are bad on it so only one speed... hit a lot of flooded out roads probably 2"/hour rain several culverts left 4" on the road hit one at 50+ mph luckily was almost at work truck must have sucked in some water as she got pretty bad running with wet cap/wires somewhere maybe firing on 3 cylinders

It was 74 today and the sun was shining. I had put wood in the stove when I go up because it was cool. All day we left the door and windows open in the kitchen.
No frogs yet because all of the ditches and drainage areas are still iced under the flowing water.
Unusual.

Snow Showers off and on all day. Rain in between. 31 to 45 degrees. Same tommorrow.

There is weather...and there is climate.
While we have had record warm this winter, Europe and Siberia had record cold. Remember last winter? Remember the snow that covered something like 46 states in December/January last year? They had snow in Atlanta at Christmas for the first time in 100 years.
It's weather, and I have enjoyed this warm winter!

Just like Douglas County which is 150 miles south of us, here in Clackamas County we had snow showers all day, woke up to a skiff of snow this morning and it has snowed off and on so far (11 a.m.). Rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week. So far we have had below normal temps and rain or snow every day this month. Grumble, grumble.
