Is there a safety hydraulic reserve for my transmission?

Who mentioned MX5800? Re-read the thread. :)

I know the MX5000 is geared. I did research before my post.

I just asked to see if SDT was actually reading my post right, because I'm pretty sure he didn't.

Indeed, I misread the original post.

Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks guys for your help. My MX5000 is not a HST. I should have specified. From the feedback I gather that an unattended hydraulic leak will empty my transmission casing. I can only hope that some sort of unexpected response from my loader or backhoe will warn me before I do serious damage to my transmission gears. How much would a transmission low oil level light have cost Kubota?
You don't damage anything, things are not as sensitiv a many here believes.

put some plywood or something under the tractor when parked to check for slow leaks, then check every hydraulic hose connection before each time you use the tractor.
you should be okay.
also worth noting from a safety point: a sudden break/leak in a line could be very dangerous for you if you're in the line of fire. at those pressures, it can easily be injected under the skin....then all sorts of dangerous health problems can occur. stay your distance if you notice a leak, always wear protective eye wear, etc.
i once owned a geared MX5000, you have a solid tractor best regards

If you have a major hydraulic leak, you are going to smell it immediately. At least the one I had worked that way.

The one I had was obvious- a stream of fluid spraying out of a hose on the loader. And yes I smelled it too. BTW keep your hands and body away, the high pressure can inject fluid under your skin.

If it's a hose that's on the work port side of a valve like a loader or BH hose, if you don't operate the valve then there is only the weight of the loader/BH pushing fluid out. You won't pump out all of the oil but the loader or BH may hit the ground and keep you from moving. So you might need to operate the valve to bring it back up, which means losing some more fluid.

OTOH if it's a hose that is on the constant pressure side (i.e. feed from the pump to the loader valve or from the loader's PB to the next valve) that bursts, it will pump out oil as long as the engine is on(*). At 10gpm and 10 gallons in the tank for my Branson 3725, that's a minute. So I guess the lesson here is to inspect those lines and replace any that look even a little questionable. Or maybe do it on a schedule.

*- ok, if it's after the loader PB you could purposely deadhead the loader valve by curling all the way and holding it, which would send all the flow through the relief and then back to the tank bypassing the burst hose. Probably not something that someone going to figure out in an emergency.

Although it is the kind of thing I would consider, millions of people have run tractors, without issue, with no low hydraulic oil warning system. Having said that, I do have a hydraulic wing mower that has on and off hydraulic issues and I was going to put a float switch in the tank, partly on account of that my lady friend uses it. Also, at $100/pail for JD oil, I would like to know if I am spewing oil, before it empties and the pump starts to cavitate.

True. But on the other hand, it does have a low hydraulic level warning. It works when you try to lift the loader and the max lift height will reduce according to how low the level is.

Everytime I raise my DUMP TRAILER, I just about suck all the oil out of my JD 6200 tranny. It worries me a bit, but I try and lower it a bit before I move the tractor.

Paying attention to little details like than can make an huge difference on the life of any tractor or machine.

It is a much greater worry on a "hydraulic" machine. If I break a fitting on the stabilizers for my Kubota wheel loader, it will empty the tank at pressure. Same with my wing mower. Take a hose off a mower pump, even when not turned on and it will empty the tank quickly! Must be closed center systems or something. You need to cap off everything before you can start the machine.
