Is there any harm in greatly increasing HP driving a hydraulic pump?

That potential problem could easily be overcome one would think. I did it on a smaller setup.

There are companies that specialize in rebuilding injector pumps... You can probably get it rebuilt for a lot less then having to purchase new....

It depends on how the pump is mounted. If connected direct to engine then rotation is fixed vs being belt driven. Gear pump you can usually change rotation by dismantling the pump and reassembling in different orientation. Piston pumps not as easy to change rotation.
