I've been watching the toolcat and telehandler posts for years. Wish I could afford one, or the other, or both!

I know the OP doesn't want to consider a Power Trac, but jeez, a PT1460 is $26,000 new. A new 5610 toolcat is pushing $50 grand!

That's a heck of a lot of money left over for attachments and beer.

The PT1460 lifts 2400# while the toolcat is rated at 1500#(if equipped with optional counterweight option). They have similar GPM and pressure on the standard hydraulics. The PT has 33% more ground clearance at 12" VS 9". The 3pt hitch is optional. The PTO is optional. The high flow hydraulics are optional. It brings the price to $50K.

I can't find the lift height for the 5610. The PT1460 is 8'.

The 1500 pound rating may be related to the way Bobcat rates skid steers. It is half the tipping load.

I checked our 5610 F series with the crane scale, it went over 3000 pounds and the rear with nothing on the 3 point stayed on the ground:

They handle the 1800 pound 7' brush hog easily:

The Toolcat 5610 comes mostly loaded while the 5600 is more base that can be optioned up.

edit: The 3pt and PTO is optional on the 5610 and it seems HO hydro is optional.
Many times the 5610 are optioned out more than the 5600. Why would you chose to not have the 5600 with the box then not get 3pt/pto?

Wow! My one year old Toolcat 5610 that is mostly loaded with options for $40k was a steal! The one reason I like the Toolcat is the loader is built in and doesn't take up a bunch of extra room. It is like a swiss army knife...lots of tools tucked in a tight package.

I wanted an ARGO in the worst way. Invisioned my life with one and how much better it would be. Finally I lucked out and got a prototype 8 wheel Diesel. Went right to the factory to pick it up (It's cheaper that way). Plus, it helps if the engine is lying in the back.

Well, it was fun all right. but even with tracks, the utilty I expected from it, just never really materialized. I had just watched too many sales videos and looked at too many pictures in brouchures.

I would suggest, getting a demo for a few days. Pretend like you own it, and get a feel whether you think it would be right for you. Particularly the transport only function. I also had a real thing for a JD 110, and did get a Demo for a weekend. I was QUICKLY disillusioned! It only took a remarkably short time too. What a relief to be able to return it, and not have paid for it.

I live on 14 acres of ag-zoned land in suburban Chicago. The ToolCat is incredibly expensive, but I'm really attracted to the stability and general utility of the vehicle. It's known as a swiss army knife without being able to do anything particular well, which is just fine by me. I don't have any specific projects in mind, but I'll likely need to brush cut, mow, load/unload, take my kids to the bus stop (1/2 mile round trip).

Is there anything comparable on the market, at a lower price? These are the features I like the most: 2-seater, fully enclosed, front-mounted cutters, 14 MPH, 4WD.

I don't agree with the swiss army knife statement. Ours is as handy as a swiss army knife, but it does everything very well :thumbsup:.

There's a BIG difference between a "running" D10 that will move, than a "working" D10 that actually can be put to work...

You can easily spend 100K on a D10 just to get it useable... Can you imagine having an old D10 and it breaks down on you?? lol That would be a bank breaker!!!
